Governor: New Nestlè Facility Leading Ohio into 21st Century

Gov. John Kasich joined Nestlè leaders in Thursday's groundbreaking for its new research and development center.

As Nestlè kicks off a new building project for its $53 million research and design facility, it will take Solon with it into the 21st century, Gov. John Kasich.

Kasich was one of several speakers during a special groundbreaking ceremony at the company's 18-acre lot off of Cannon Road. The center will be Nestlè's global Product Technology Center, dedicated to frozen and chilled foods research.

"We're 21st century here, now," Kasich said, adding that Nestlè "is one of the greatest companies in the world."

The new 144,000 square-foot building should be operational by 2014 and will include a pilot plant to test and evaluate new recipes and the latest technologies.

The facility will create and transfer 100 jobs and will continue to support popular brands like Stouffer's, Nestlè Toll House, DiGiorno and more.

Sean Westcott will serve as the director of the PTC and said he hopes to make Solon the epicenter "of excellence for frozen and chilled foods."

"We're so proud to be a partner with Nestlè," Councilman Ed Kraus said.

He thanked the company for its dedication to the community and was glad the two could continue to build a great partnership.

A special guest for the ceremony was longtime councilman John Kurpell who played a significant role in Nestlè's move to Solon in the 1960s.
