Give to a good cause and watch those pesky Cuyahoga County library fines drop.
Library fines lightening your wallet? Well, not to worry, the Solon Public Library has announced the Food 4 Fines program which helps the poor, and your piggy bank. Here's how it works: Donate up to four food items per day, and reduce your library fines by up to $4. You can donate peanut butter, cereal, canned soup, canned vegetables, beef stew and tuna fish. Each of the six items is worth $1, and will be handed over to the Cleveland Foodbank. Only thing is, you can't donate glass containers, damaged or expired foods. You can also donate to one or more of the other 27 Cuyahoga County public library branches, if you wish. Click here for the complete list.

Children pack the library to enjoy games, snacks and entertainment
If you heard blaring rock 'n' roll and the laughter of a couple hundred kids Wednesday night, it came from an unlikely source — the library. Solon Library hosted its 2012 Summer Reading Kickoff Party, offering the large crowd a festive celebration you don't often associate with books. It featured high school and college bands, a magician, a balloon-toting clown and craft stations. "It's just a wonderful community celebration," librarian Sally Dyer said. "Having it on the last day of school is even better." The Kickoff Party was the first of many activities scheduled for the summer. Be sure to click on the PDF icon to view a complete listing of events for all ages.
