Prisoner-housing agreements with other communities has helped the Solon Jail collect more than $300,000 in revenue in 2012, two times as much as it collected in 2011.
The Solon jail nearly doubled its revenue in 2012 compared to 2011. The jail brought in more than $304,000 in revenue last year, according to the monthly jail reports released by the police department. In 2011, revenue reached about $157,000. The jail spent nearly $125,000 in 2012, compared with about $83,000 in 2011. These costs do not include personnel costs. Solon Police Chief Chris Viland has been busy forging agreements with nearby municipalities to house their prisoners in exchange for a fee. Communities that now use the Solon Jail for their prisoner housing include, but are not limited to, Twinsburg, Orange and others. The city is currently working out a deal with the city of Reminderville. See the full jail report for December 2012…

Three year, $85,000 agreement would give Solon Jail a more steady income.
The Solon Jail may have new prisoners by Jan. 1, 2013. Twinsburg Police Chief Chris Noga hopes to have city council approve an agreement with Solon to house its prisoners at the Solon Jail in the next few weeks. If approved, the transition would likely be effective starting with the new year. "I’m recommending that we press forward and house all of our prisoners at the Solon jail,” Noga said to Twinsburg City Council last Tuesday. The agreement would be for three years and would cost the city $85,000 each year to use Solon's a full service jail and correction staff. The Twinsburg Police Department currently operates a 12-day facility. The operation cost for 2011 was $152,000 including labor, supplies, feeding prisoners, according to Noga. …

Solon's correction officers will receive raises in the next three years but will pay more toward their health car.
Solon has reached a three-year collective bargaining agreement with its correction officers. The agreement will give the officers raises over the next three but they will have to contribute more toward their health care, according to the agreement. The new deal is effective Jan. 1 and runs through the end of 2015. The agreement was approved by Solon City Council on Monday night. Correction officers, which work in the Solon jail, will receive wage increases of 2.25 percent in 2013, 2014, and 2015. Employee health care costs such as out-of-pocket deductibles and prescription fees will increase. The agreement is basically the same one approved by the patrolmen in February. Mayor Susan Drucker thanked the members of the Ohio Patrolmen's …

The Solon jail report shows that the jail is bringing in much more revenue than it did last year.
The Solon Jail is making a lot more money this year than it did last year. The latest monthly report from the jail, with data from July 2012, shows the jail brought it revenue of $153,021.87 as of the end of July. That's a nearly 64 percent increase over the jail revenue at this time last year, which was $93,414.85. Expenses are also up, but not enough to offset the revenue gains. The year-to-date expenses are at about $60,000 this year, and about $41,000 last year. Solon Police Chief Chris Viland has been pursing "cost-effective" ways to operate the jail since he took over as police chief last year. One way Viland is doing that is by increase revenue streams by bringing in more outside prisoners. In July, Solon jail housed 72 prisoners …
