Solon Man Rolls Out Innovative Exercise Bike

Want to try out the new Ball Bike? The Solon Community Center now has a bunch of them.

Solon resident Chuck Herman has been in the exercise equipment business for a long time, and he says there's never been a piece of equipment like the Ball Bike. Created by a Canton company called Fit One, the Ball Bike innovates on the design of an exercise bike by using a stability ball instead of a seat. This forces the rider to balance during their workout, helping to strengthen the bodies core muscles, said Herman, who is a partner in Fit One. "It's the only one of its kind in the world," Herman said. "It's a dynamic piece of equipment." Sound cool? Want to try one? Well, you can at the Solon Community Center. The community center has purchased 11 Ball Bikes from FitOne and will begin offering classes using the unique workout machine. …

Boy Turns In Father For Being Drunk At Solon Community Center

The information in this report is from the Solon Police Department. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

A 35-year-old Solon man was causing a disturbance at the Solon Community Center on April 28, falling over drunk in the locker room while struggling to dress his three kids, according to Solon Police. That led one of his children, an 8-year-old son, to approach a worker at the center and tell them his father had been drinking, and that he wanted them to call his mother. Solon Police officers responded and arrested the father, Justin Matthew Rodebaugh, 35, of Solon. He is charged him with disorderly conduct. Staff at the community center stayed with the children -- which also included a 4-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy -- until they were picked up by their mother. Rodebaugh is the same man arrested last summer after police say he passed …

Solon Community Center Seeking Fee Increase

The Solon Community Center is looking to raise fees by 5 percent this fall.

The Solon Community Center is seeking a five percent membership fee increase that would take effect this fall. The increase is needed, according to memo from Recreation Director Donald Holub, because costs for the center are increasing. The community center's membership rolls have decreased from 8,935 in 2009 to 8,079 right now. But the center has added members and revenue from a Silver Sneakers program. Revenues are down, from $969,000 in 2009 to $945,000 in 2011. Here's a breakdown of the annual membership fees and the proposed rates: These fees will be considered further by the finance committee and eventually voted on by the Solon City Council. What do you think of these increases?
