New Giant Eagle Construction Begins (PHOTOS)

With demolition complete, work is underway constructing the new Market District Giant Eagle at Solon Village.

When a new Giant Eagle Market District opens in Solon in 2013, it will be one of the nicest, most-high end grocery stores in the Cleveland area. Now that demolition of the old Solar Center buildings is complete, construction has begun on the new Giant Eagle. Giant Eagle plans to build a Giant Eagle Market District store in the redeveloping Solon Village shopping plaza. That means the store will have more more services, including outdoor cafe seating, and more diverse food offerings. Right now there are no other Giant Eagle Market District stores in the Cleveland area.

Man Passes Out in Giant Eagle Lot: Blotter Roundup

The following information is from the Solon Police Department

Solon Police arrested a Mayfield Heights man on Nov. 7 for having physical control of a vehicle while under the influence. Officers found 39-year-old Ki Woong Song asleep at 1:10 a.m. in the Giant Eagle parking lot. Lt. Bruce Felton said Song was slumped over the steering wheel while the engine was running. "The driver's window was completely down, and it was cold out," Felton said. "He was pretty difficult to get awake." Song took a blood-alcohol level test and blew a .174, more than twice the legal limit. Software helps family find iPhone: A Solon man came to the police station with his daughter to report that her iPhone 4S had been stolen. Market District Giant Eagle May Be Delayed

The Market District Giant Eagle planned for Solon Village may be delayed into 2014, reports The Solon Times.

Solon may not get its new high-end Giant Eagle as soon as originally thought. Because of complexities associated with upgrading plans to match Giant Eagle's Market Distict concept, the store opening will likely be pushed back to late 2013 or even early 2014, reports the Solon Times. Read the full story at the Solon Times. The store was originally slated to open in mid-2013. But when Giant Eagle decided to convert it into a Market District store, it pushed the timeline back. This will be the first Market District store in the Cleveland area. The designation means the store will be more high end by offering more services, including outdoor cafe seating and more diverse food offerings. The Solon Village project is moving along though. Blame the GPS & Black Bear in Solon: Best of the Blotter

Here are some of the weirdest police reports from departments across the region

Here are this week's most bizarre police calls, reports and charges. All information was provided by police reports from departments in Patch communities. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction. Blame it on technology: A Broadview Heights woman overlooked her .111 blood-alcohol content level on Aug. 26 when she explained to Westlake Police why she drove the wrong way on Interstate 90. Who deserved the blame? Her GPS, of course. That's what 26-year-old Jacqueline Kovach told police after she was stopped at 2:34 a.m. Police arrested her for drunk driving, an open container, no seat belt and willful and wanton disregard for safety. She drove west in the eastbound lanes near the Columbia Road overpass. …

Well - I agree with I.M.Wright! And just maybe by putting her face here will make her think twice about ever driving drunk again. She could have killed people! Its not like she committed some small infraction. She was drunk and did not even realize when she turned the wrong way. A sober person, without an open container, would have been more aware of GPS instructions. Anyone with a basic GPS …   more ›

New Giant Eagle Will Be High-End Market District Store

Giant Eagle plans to build a high-end Market District store in the redeveloping Solon Village shopping plaza. That means the store will have more more services, including outdoor cafe seating, and more diverse food offerings.

When a new Giant Eagle opens in Solon in 2013, it will be one of the nicest, most-high end grocery stores in the Cleveland area. Giant Eagle plans to build a Market District store in the redeveloping Solon Village shopping plaza. That means the store will have more more services, including outdoor cafe seating, and more diverse food offerings. Right now there are no other Market District stores in the Cleveland area. "The concept is unique, and we're excited about that," said Planning Commission Chairman The change to the high-end store requires some facade changes that will need approval by city officials. The planning commission signed off on the changes this week and now Solon City Council will take up the changes on July 16. Meanwhile…

Drug-filled Gummy Bears & Meat Theft: Best of the Blotter

Here are some of the weirdest police reports from departments across the region

It seems there's no alleged crime too bizarre to occur in Northeast Ohio. Here are some of this week's weird calls and charges. All information was provided by police reports from departments in Patch communities. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction. Driving through a neighborhood: An 18-year-old Avon Lake man faces drunk driving charges from an incident that caused damage to a home, a garage and a car. Westlake Police said William Muller drove his 1991 Ford pickup truck into a garage and car Tuesday morning on Bradley Road. About 15 minutes later, a resident of the 31100 block of Center Ridge Road said somebody drove a pickup truck through his backyard and into a creek before exiting on foot. A …

Work Begins On Solon Village Project

A groundbreaking ceremony for the Solon Village project is scheduled for Thursday.

Some work has already begun on Solon Village, the redevelopment of the Solar Shopping Center in the middle of town. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for May 24. First up will be construction of a new 12,000-square-foot retail building behind Fifth Third Bank and D.O. Summers. That building will include a Starbucks with a drive-thru, Menchie's, GNC and Cole Optical. The plan is to have the building complete later this year. Next, the developers will rip down the south end of the existing plaza, where a new 92,000-square-foot Giant Eagle will be constructed. Once that store is open, expected in summer 2013, the plan is to tear down portions of the old Giant Eagle and rehab the remaining shopping plaza. The entire plaza is expected to …
