Final release of state of Ohio Report Cards for 2011-12 confirms that Solon students are achieving at the highest levels in Northeast Ohio. With a Performance Index Score of 111.2, the Solon Schools had the top achievement score among public school districts in Northeast Ohio and the third highest in the state. Solon also received the state’s "Excellent with Distinction" rating. State report card data is typically released in August each year, but was delayed this year due to a statewide audit of attendance reporting in Ohio school districts. The audit findings were reported in late February and the Ohio Department of Education subsequently released the final report card data. When the Ohio Department of Education released the 2010-11 state report cards Wednesday, Solon City Schools had a lot to cheer about. Solon received the "Excellent" designation and had a whopping 110.7 performance score, higher than last year's. The district met all 26 of the state indicators, which are based on student performance on math, reading, science and graduation tests. But how do they stack up against other area schools? Solon School District received an 'excellent' ranking this year, but not the 'excellent with distinction' rank it earned last year, despite posting a better score. How come?
The latest state report card for Solon City Schools recognized that the schools are excellent, but removed the "excellent with distinction" tag the schools had earned previously, despite this year's higher performance. What gives? Essentially, the reason is that Solon students are already performing at a very high level and there's little room for improvement. The excellence "downgrade" comes down to two different ways the state measures student progress in Ohio's more than 600 school districts. One way is with the Performance Index Score, which measures "the acheivement of all students over time," according to Solon school officials. Solon is again one of the top school districts in the state with a performance index of 110.7
Solon City Schools continues to rank as one of the best school systems in the state. The school district earned an excellent ranking on its Ohio Report Card for the 2010-11 school year, meeting all 26 performance goals. It's the 12th year in a row Solon has met all the performance measures. The official report will be released Wednesday morning, but preliminary data shows that Solon Schools received a performance score of 110.7, slightly higher than the district's score last year, when Solon was the top-ranked school district in the state. Solon is a special community that values education, appreciates the hard work and time it takes to create a successful student, and has families that want what is best for their kids and send them to school ready to learn.
