Josh Mandel in Drag: Huffington Publishes Beachwood High School Photo

U.S. Senate candidate appears in padded bra, spandex shorts in 1996 yearbook

It looks like Josh Mandel is a pretty funny guy - or, at least he was as a student at Beachwood High School. The Huffington Post published a photo today from the 1996 yearbook. The photo depicts local alum and state treasurer Josh Mandel, dressed in a padded bra and spandex shorts, spotting another boy in drag in the weight lifting room. Click here to see the full article. His campaign spokesperson responded to the Post that Mandel knows humor is an important part of keeping up morale, adding, "He also thinks it's important to have a spotter when you're doing lat pull downs." We are working to get the story behind the photo! Did you know Mandel in high school? Who's the guy Mandel is spotting? Email me at Nikki.Ferrell@Patch.com, or tell …

Green Dream Sees Biggest Crowd Yet

Visitors flock Beachwood Community Center for eco-friendly business expo

This year's Green Dream eco-friendly business expo looks to be the biggest ever. Beachwood High School student Courtney Fishman was counting attendees for just two hours at the beginning of the event and said she saw 1,500 people - and there were four hours to go. More exhibitors - 133 - were there than ever before, and the outdoor health and wellness tent was expanded by 60 feet to hold the extra vendors. Six food trucks lined up outside, forming a food court. "I think it's fantastic. Definitely worthwhile to attend," said Karen Shoemaker, branch manager of the Beachwood Dollar Bank. "I'm really impressed with the leadership skills and the impression that they give." The Green Dream students were giddy toward the end of the event. "I've …

Could Someone Like Beachwood's Coach Have Helped Chardon Shooter?

Beachwood's longtime "Coach I," whose grandson was a victim of the Chardon shooter, is a mentor to so many. Could a role model like him have helped TJ Lane?

I had not thought about Dom Iammarino, my Beachwood High School General Business teacher, in a long time. I was not the kind of student who kept in touch. I barely kept in touch when I was actually attending Beachwood 30 years ago. I moved away. I have probably written 10,000 checks since Mr. Iammarino - "Coach I" to pretty much everyone at the school, especially his wrestling team - taught us how to fill out the "pay to the order to" section. Come to think of it, I should have thought of Coach I every time I paid a bill. I have been thinking about Coach I since Monday, when I found out his 16-year-old grandson was the first to die in the shooting at Chardon High School. A school shooting is an unspeakable tragedy, anytime and anywhere. …
