Solon wrestlers Brandon Thompson and Anthony Collica both won their third state championships Saturday.
Solon wrestlers Anthony Collica and Brandon Thompson each won a state championship on Saturday in Columbus. Collica defeated Markus Scheidel of Lakewood's St. Edward in the 152-pound championship match. Thompson won against Artem Timchenko of Olentangy Orange in the 120-pound championship. Both wrestlers won their matches by a 3-1 decision. Two of the greatest wrestlers in Solon history, Collica and Thompson brought home their third state championship. Congratulations Comets!

Solon wrestling stars Anthony Collica and Brandon Thompson will wrestling in the state championship matches in their weight classes on Saturday.
Solon wrestlers Anthony Collica and Brandon Thompson will each grapple for their another state championship today. Collica will wrestle Markus Scheidel of Lakewood's St. Edward in the 152-pound championship match. Thompson will take on Artem Timchenko of Olentangy Orange in the 120-pound championship. Two of the greatest wrestlers in Solon history, Collica and Thompson will try to bring home their third state championship. The championship matches are scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m. today at the Schottenstein Center at Ohio State. Solon Patch will let you know what happened after the championship matches are complete. The Solon Comets won the Comet Classic Tournament held at Solon High School last weekend.
They hosted the tournament, and won it too. The talented Solon Comet wrestling team won the Comet Classic wrestling tournament held at Solon High last weekend. The team collected 182 points to win, and was the only team to have every wrestler in the tournament win points. Solon standout Anthony Collica was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler after he collected five pins a bit more than 7 minutes worth of wrestling. Collica defeated Twinsburg's Tyrone McGuinea to win the 152-pound weight class. Also wrestling well for Solon was: Congratulations Comets!

Four student-athletes signed letters of intention to play at colleges in Ohio, Oklahoma, New York and Arizona
Four Solon High School athletes decided on their collegiate destinations Wednesday and let family, friends and coaches witness part of the process. For National Letter of Intent Day, the students made their choices official by signing their letters in an assembly hosted in the atrium. Here are the athletes and where they will be attending college in 2013: "They've already won two state titles, and they both won 124 matches," Solon Wrestling coach Tony DiGiovani said. Solon's Anthony Collica wrestled in the Junior Nationals Freestyle Wrestling tournament in North Dakota, and won the 145-pound weight class.
Solon High School's Anthony Collica is a two-time state wrestling champion. Now he's a national champion too. Collica won the 145-pound weight class in the Junior Nationals Freestyle Wrestling tournament, which features the nation's best high school wrestlers. The tournament wrapped up last weekend in Fargo, N.D. Collica came from behind in the championship match to defeat a wrestler from Missouri. Last year, Collica finished fourth at the national tournament. Collica will be a senior at Solon this year.

Solon wrestling's Brandon Thompson and Anthony Collica each won their second consecutive state championship on Saturday, while Justin Kresevic came in third. Thompson (113 lbs weight class) and Collica (145 lbs) both defeated wrestlers from St. Edwards to win their second consecutive state championship. They are both juniors. Justin Kresevic (160 lbs) lost on Friday in overtime, but rallied in the consolation bracket to win third place. Congrats to all three wrestlers on a great performance!

Three Solon wrestlers are headed to the state tournament after stellar performances in the weekend's district meet in Mentor. Brandon Thompson (41-2 record; 113 lbs weight class) and Anthony Collica 40-3; 145 lbs) both came in first place in their weight class. Thompson and Collica are both defending state champions. Justin Kresevic (39-6; 160 lbs) came in second in his weight class at the district tournament. Kresevic will make the state tournament after missing last season with an injury. Two defending state champions and a wrestler on a great comeback are grappling for Solon in the District Final tonight. Brandon Thompson, Anthony Collica and Justin Kresevic will wrestle in the finals in the Mentor district tonight. The finals begin at 7 p.m. Thompson (113 lbs weight class) and Collica (145 lbs) are both defending state champions. Kresevic (160 lbs) is wrestling this season after missing last season due to injury. Solon's Daniel Clement (106 lbs) and Shawn Williams (126 lbs) will both wrestle for fifth place. Nine Comet wrestlers advanced to the district meet.
Four Solon Comet wrestlers won their sectional wrestling championships this weekend, and nine grapplers in all are headed to next week's district meet in Mentor. Brandon Thomson, T.J. Duran, Anthony Collica and Justin Kresevic all won sectionals in their weight class.
