Comets Hockey Advances in Baron Cup

Solon beat No. 1 seeded Amherst to advance to the second round against Kent Roosevelt on Friday.

A last-minute effort by a freshman gave Solon the win against Amherst Monday night in the Baron Cup Playoffs, 7-6. Freshman Alex Wu scored the deciding goal on a power play with 12 seconds left in the game. Zach Mandry scored two goals while Adam Weisfeld, Dan Roberts, Ben Peterson, Alex Wu and Sam Littman added scores of their own. Defenseman Michael Krenn had a season high three assists and Littman had four assists during the game. The Comets take on Kent Roosevelt at Brooklyn on Friday at 5:30 pm. Roosevelt beat Elyria Catholic to advance.

Solon Hockey Starts Baron Cup Play on Monday

After beating Chagrin Falls 3-1, the hockey team will play Amherst Feb. 4 at 6:30 p.m.

Solon hockey will enter into the post season Monday night after a big win against Chagrin Falls on Sunday, 3-1. The Comets will start play in the Baron Cup on Monday, Feb. 4 at the Brooklyn Rink (7600 Memphis Ave. Cleveland) at 6:30 p.m. They'll face off with Amherst in a rematch of last year's Baron Cup championship game. On Sunday goalie Kyle Peterson held Chagrin Falls to one goal and senior Jake Pierce led the team with a goal and an assist. Zach Mandry and Sam Littman also netted goals in the victory.
