Stop The Hate Awards: Solon's Zachary Schwartz Reads His Essay

Solon High School's Zachary Schwartz, one of 10 finalists in the Maltz Museum's Stop the Hate essay contest, read his essay at Severance Hall on Sunday

Zachary Schwartz didn't win the big scholarship prize, but congratulations to the Solon High senior on being named one of 10 finalists in the Maltz Museum's Stop the Hate Essay contest. Schwartz won a $1,000 college scholarship. Schwartz read his essay on Sunday before a packed house at Severance Hall, and Solon Patch was there to record it. Solon High's Zachary Schwartz Finalist In Maltz Museum Essay Contest

Schwartz is one of 10 finalists pulled from a pool of 1,800 contestants from 126 schools. He will compete in April for $100,000 in scholarship prizes.

Solon High School's Zachary Schwartz was named as a finalist in the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage's annual essay contest. Schwartz is one of 10 finalists pulled from a pool of 1,800 contestants from 126 schools. He will compete for $100,000 in scholarship prizes. The finalists' essays address a variety of issues, from racism and ethnic discrimination to sexuality, mental illness, special needs and cyberbullying. According to the museum, essays have been read and scored by more than 200 community volunteers. "We are so proud of these young people," said Lynda A.
