What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than with some love poems? On Feb. 3, Solon High School students held a Poetry Slam to raise money for charities. Solon Patch was there to video record many of the performances. While the students performed poems with a variety of themes, many of them touched on the subject of love. They're not all happy and sappy. Some are sad, some are complicated, some look at love from a unique angle. All of the poets performed with skill, bravery and creativity. What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than with some love poems? Last Friday, Solon High School students held a Poetry Slam to raise money for charities. Solon Patch was there to video record many of the performances. While the students performed poems with a variety of themes, many of them touched on the subject of love. They're not all happy and sappy. Some are sad, some are complicated, some look at love from a unique angle. All of the poets performed with skill, bravery and creativity. Sue Wilson, a nurse with Cleveland Clinic, helped donate 120 Valentine's Day packages for U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan.
Thanks to Sue Wilson, more than 100 U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan will know that someone is thinking about them on Valentine's Day. Wilson, a Solon resident, is a nurse at the Cleveland Clinic. She and her colleagues helped organize a donation drive to collect items for about 120 soldiers serving in Afghanistan. Also aiding the cause were some kindergarten and first-grade students at Creative Playrooms in Solon. They made valentines to put into each care package. Wilson said she wanted to do something this year to help the military personnel serving the country. "I just have the utmost respect for them, and am very grateful," Wilson said. Wilson said her daughter is in the national guard, and Wilson was able to get a list of 120 soliders, …
