Solon Runner Therese Haiss Gives Verbal Commitment to Oregon

Therese Haiss, a standout long distance runner for the Comets, told the Plain Dealer she plans to run for the Oregon Ducks next fall.

Solon Comet standout runner Therese Haiss has commited to run at the University of Oregon, reports the Plain Dealer. Haiss told the newspaper she picked the Ducks over Penn State, saying she did not want to pass up the opportunity to head to the West Coast. During her time at Solon High, Haiss was a star on the cross country and track teams. She won the state title in the 800 meters and runner-up in the mile. Haiss told the newspaper she will concentrate on track and field at college, but may try cross country as an upperclassman. She placed ninth in the state cross country this year. Therese Haiss Places 29th In Midwest Regional Race; Best Time From Northeast Ohio

Solon runner Therese Haiss placed 29th in the Foot Locker Midwest Region Championships, good enough for the best time for a female runner from Northeast Ohio.

Solon runner Therese Haiss ran well in the Foot Locker Midwest Region Championship race last weekend in Wisconsin, placing 29th out of more than 270 runners. While Haiss did not qualify for the national race in San Diego, her time of 18:19 was the best recorded by a female runner from Northeast Ohio and the fourth best time by an Ohio runner. Solon Runners Perform Well At State Meet

Solon Comet runners performed well at the state meet in Hebron last weekend.

The Solon Comets performed well at the state cross country meet last weekend in Hebron, led by a 9th place finish from standout runner Therese Haiss. The boys team and three Lady Comets runners qualified for the meet. The boys team finished 11th overall, with a team-best 16th place finish from Kevin Blank. Also representing the boys team was Dan Arters, Grant Behnke, Kevin Burns, Jacob Pearlman, John Riordan and Kyle Singerman. Besides Haiss, the two other Lady Comet runners, Geneva Sandridge and Louiza Wise, finished 42nd and 58th, respectively. Congrats on great performances, Comets!

Therese Haiss Leads Solon Girls Cross Country at Tiffin Carnival

Solon girls cross country team took 7th out of 33 teams, including a first place finish by senior Therese Haiss.

At the Tiffin Carnival, the Solon girls cross country team took 7th out of 33 teams, including a first place finish by senior Therese Haiss. Many of the Comet runners ran a new personal best.  Haiss tied her career best time of 18:18. She was followed by sophomore Geneva Sandridge and freshman Louiza Wise who took 17th and 19th place overall and ran their best times of 19:25 and 19:35 respectively.  Our fourth and fifth runners both ran personal best times, Julia Haiss (21:00) and Paige Myers (21:49). This coming weekend the Comet runners head to the McDonough Invitational.

Solon Girls Track and Field coach Brian Sabol knew a year ago that the 2012 season might end with one of his stars earning a championship. A week has passed since Therese Haiss became one of two Solon student-athletes to be named a state champion. She ranked first in the Division I Girls 800 Meter Run with a finishing time of 2:08.05. She also helped her team finish with an overall third-place tie with Dublin Coffman. Sabol took some time, via email, to reflect on the hard work and values Therese displayed to earn the state's top spot. Two Solon Track Stars Named State Champions

Khoury Crenshaw and Therese Haiss won events at the State Track and Field Tournament in Columbus

Solon High School's boys and girls track and field teams each feature a new state champion. Junior Khoury Crenshaw won the Division I Boys 100 Meter Dash with a blazing speed of 10.76 seconds. Junior Therese Haiss claimed the top ranking in the Division I Girls 800 Meter Run with a finishing time of 2:08.05. Therese also finished second in the Girls 1600 Meter Run. Her times helped Solon's girls team finish with a third-place tie with Dublin Coffman. The boys team finished tied for seventh with Westerville North. Solon Boys Cross Country, Therese Haiss Finish 5th At State Meet

Comet runners have a lot to be proud of after a good showing at the state cross country meet last weekend.

The Solon High boys cross country team and Lady Comet runner Therese Haiss each finished fifth at the Ohio Division I State Meet last weekend at the National Trail Raceway. Haiss ran a personal best time of 18:18 to earn fifth place, running in the lead pack during the entire race. Scoring for the boys in the team race were sophomore Kevin Blank in 16:05 with 11 points; senior captain Dan Urbanek (16:25, 26 pts.); senior captain Max Haiss (16:32, 38 points); junior John Riordan (16:35, 41 points); and junior Grant Behnke (16:39, 44 points). Solon Runners Headed to State Meet

The Solon Boys Cross Country team and a top Lady Comet runner will be competing in the State Championship Meet on Saturday.

The Solon Boys Cross Country team and a top Lady Comet runner will be competing in the State Championship Meet on Saturday. The boys team clinched an invite to the state meet after finishing third in the regional meet last weekend. The top four teams and top 16 individuals make it to the meet. On the girls side, standout Therese Haiss will also be competing at the state meet after finishing second at the regional meet with a time of 20:01 at Boardman. Haiss Siblings Spark Solon Cross Country Teams

Therese, Max and Julia Haiss keep Comets in the running for state bids

It doesn't bother their parents when Therese, Max and Julia Haiss are always running around after school. The three siblings are key contributors for Solon's cross country teams this season. Therese is an All-Ohio performer, Max is rounding into form as one of the top competitors for a strong Comet team and Julia is making a name for herself after switching from soccer to cross country. "It's a pleasure to have both of them on the team," said Solon girls' cross country coach Marci Ridenbaugh. "Obviously, we expect Therese to do well, but it surprised me when Julia came out for the team even though she worked hard every day during the summer." Father Max Haiss ran cross country in high school and his children are continuing that tradition. …

Solon's Dave Rudary is playing his best golf of the season as the Comet senior shot three superb rounds in three victories this week.  Solon bested Mentor 167-169 as Rudary carded a round of even-par 35. Anthony Stames added a 42, Justin Razzante shot 45 and Eric Rudary aided the cause with a 46. Rudary topped that effort with a round of one-under par 34 in a 156-161 win over Nordonia. Stames also broke 40 as he shot a 39 while Razzante finished at 41 and Sam Littman posted a 42. Rudary, averaging 39 strokes …
