Thieves Strike All Over Solon In Rash Of Car Break-Ins: Interactive Map

In the last six months, thieves have targeted cars in Solon to steal valuables such as laptops and cell phones. See our interactive map of the reported thefts.

Don't leave valuables visible in your car in a Solon parking lot. They might get stolen. At least 26 cars in Solon have been broken into in the last seven month in crimes that police believe are related. Police don't have suspects but the cases have been handed over to the detective bureau, said Lt. Bruce Felton, a police spokesman. Solon Patch examined police reports dating back to late October, when the first such theft occured. The thefts all have similar details: Cars parked in the early evening outside Solon restaurants, bars or other public areas are broken into through a car window. Two cars were broken into outside Panera Bread, adding to a long list of similar break-ins in Solon in recent months.

Two cars were broken into outside Panera Bread in Solon, adding to a long list of similar break-ins in Solon in recent months. Solon Police say that the cars were broken into between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on May 10 while their driver's were inside Panera Bread on Kruse Drive. Both cars, a 2006 Volkswagen and a 2003 Honda, had rear passengers window broken and bags stolen, containing calculators, books, a laptop and other items. The total value of the items in the two thefts were about $1,400. Solon Police have investigated a number of similar car break-ins in recent months. Man Arrested For Stealing Expired Cans Of Red Bull

A 54-year-old Cleveland man was arrested for theft and scavenging after police say he took scrap from Red Bull in Solon. Most of the $500 worth of scrap was expired cans of Red Bull which have been sold at flea markets illegally in the past, according to the police report. The man was pulled over on April 28 near Aurora and Harper roads for an unsecured load of metal in his truck. Police say the man had taken the scrap without permission from Red Bull facility on Carter Street in Solon.

Diamond Watch Stolen At Solon Community Center

The information in this report is from the Solon Police.

A 75-year-old Moreland Hills woman had her diamond watch stolen from a locker in the Solon Community Center, according to Solon Police. The watch was Michele Urban mini diamond watch valued at $1,895. The theft was reported on April 11. The watch was stolen while its owner was in the pool at the fitness center. The detective bureau is investigating the theft.

Car Broken Into, Laptop Stolen Outside Solon Restaurant

A 24-year-old Brunswick woman reported to Solon Police that someone broke into her car while parked at Imperial Wok on Aurora Road in Solon. The thieves broke the rear window on her 2009 Ford Focus and stole a Toshiba laptop inside the car. The laptop was valued at $500. The theft occured on March 19 between 7:30 p.m. and 9:10 p.m. A number of similars car break-ins have occured outside Solon restaurants in recent months. Thieves have broken out a number of car windows and taken laptops and other computer equipment. Solon Police advice people not to leave laptops and other valuables visible in parked cars.

Man Steals $258 Worth of Fresh Fish From Mustard Seed Market

A man is wanted for stealing lots of fresh fish from Mustard Seed Market in Solon. On March 11, the grocery store on Kruse Drive called the police to tell them that a man requested the meat department to wrap $254.68 worth of orange roughy. The man then took the fish and hurried out of the store, forcing his way out through the front entrance, according to the police report. Store employees tried to find the man in the parking, but did not. The man is described as a tall, black male who is about 30 years old and weighing more than 200 pounds. He was wearing a blue coat and a black hat with a white design on it. Police are following up on the theft.

Car Stolen From Dealership Recovered In Solon

A 38-year-old Solon man was arrested and charged with stealing a car from a dealership in Mentor, according to Solon Police. A police officer on patrol on March 3 noticed a tan 2008 Honda Accord parked at the Solon Motel on Aurora Road that matched the description of a car that was stolen from Honda of Mentor. The police officer located the man who arrived in the car in a room and found the keys to the stolen car in the man's pocket, according to the police report. The man was taken to the Solon jail and held for Mentor Police.

Woman Won't Give Ex-Boyfriend New Phone Number, So He Steals Her Phone

A 21-year-old Solon man is facing a theft charge after police say he stole his ex-girlfriend's phone after she refused to give him her phone number, according to Solon Police. Police say the ex-boyfriend showed up at the GetGo gas station in Solon to see his ex-girlfriend, who worked there. The woman, a 19-year-old Oakwood Village woman, told him to leave after he asked for her new cell phone number. She told him to leave and then, according to the police report, he took her iPhone. Police later found the phone, valued at $400, near SOM Center Road.

More Shoplifters Caught At Giant Eagle

Giant Eagle in Solon has been rounding up shoplifters lately, and has caught two more people trying to steal merchandise, according to Solon Police reports. On Feb. 12, a 60-year-old Solon woman was caught by the store's loss prevention officers putting items in her purse. She also had a cart, and paid for the items in the cart but not in the purse. She was caught trying to steal about $45 worth of merchandise. She was charged with theft by the Solon Police. On Feb. 18, 40-year-old Maple Heights woman was caught stuffing items in her purse and trying to work from the store. She was caught by Giant Eagle staff with about $28 of unpaid merchandise. She was charged with theft and also arrested on a warrant from Shaker Heights.

Train Engine Horn Stolen In Solon

The information in this report is from the Solon Police.

It's not the great train robbery, but it's close. Someone climbed onto a train engine parked in Solon and stole the horn, according to Solon Police. Wheeling & Lake Erie Railways Company called Solon Police on Feb. 18 to report that the horn from one of their railroad engines had been stolen while the engine was parked on tracks near Carter Street, according to a police report. The company said the theft occured sometime overnight Feb. 17. The horn is valued at $3,000.
