Income Tax Revenue Up for Northeast Ohio Patch Towns

15 of 18 Ohio Patch communities saw 2012 income tax collections surpass 2011 figures.

Rising income tax collections and falling unemployment rates suggest local economies are slowly rebounding in Northeast Ohio, at least for some communities. A review of income tax collections for 2012 and 2011 in 18 Northeast Ohio Patch communities shows only one of the municipalities saw a drop in income tax revenue, Brecksville, while just one community saw income tax returns remain flat: Solon. Data was unavailable for Mayfield Heights. In Solon, while the $39.5 million in net tax revenue in 2012 was flat compared to 2011, projections were for only $38 million in net tax revenue, so actual receipts beat the forecast, said Finance Director Dennis Kennedy. Property Tax Rates In Solon To Increase Slightly

Property tax rates in Solon will increase only slightly in 2013, according to a database produced in the Plain Dealer. While property values in Cuyahoga County plummeted in most communities after the recent revaluation, values in Solon held up reasonably well, posting only a slight loss. That means the rate, which is usually adjusted to make sure governments can bring in the same amount of money, only increased slightly. According to the Plain Dealer, Solon homeowners will pay $2,265 per $100,000 of home value in their 2013 tax bills, up from $2,224 per $100,000 last year.
