Solon voters will decide Nay 7 whether to rezone a 2.5 acre parcel of land near Solon Village from commercial shopping center to an office district.
Solon voters and residents in Ward 6 will decide May 7 whether to rezone a 2.5-acre piece of land on Aurora Road. The rezoning will appear on the ballot as Issue 8 and must be approved by a majority of voters citywide and in Ward 6 for passage. Background When Solon voters decided to rezone the Solar Center in 2009 so the outdated shopping plaza could be redeveloped, a key piece was an undeveloped 2.5 acre parcel along Aurora Road. So the shopping plaza, and that parcel, were rezoned from office to a commercial district appropriate for shopping centers. Giant Eagle is now hiring for positions at the Market District store under construction at Solon Village. According to a sign posted outside Solon Village, the store is now hiring for positions for the new store, which is expected to open sometime this year. Giant Eagle is looking to hire positions in the bakery, a gourmet chef and others. Visit Giant Eagle's careers website for more information on how to apply. Antonio's Pizza is now open for pickup orders in Solon. Antonio's is a family-owned pizza chain with a number of locations around the Cleveland area, and now has a pizza shop at Solon Village. Antonio's is in the new building that also contains Menchie's and Starbucks. Antonio's Pizza has been around since 1967 and prides itself on its authentic Italian pizzas. Giant Eagle Market District in Solon wants to have Curbside Express service, but those plans will need to be approved by city council first.
Giant Eagle Market District in Solon wants to offer Curbside Express service, in which customers can order groceries online and have them delivered to their cars in front of the store. Plans for Curbside Express would need to be approved by the city's safety committee and then the full city council because the plans require changes to the official project site plan. The safety committee will discuss the proposal at 6 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall. In a memo, Traffic Engineer Kevin Westbrooks said he does not have a problem with these plans so long as Giant Eagle adheres to the operations schedule, namely to limit flow to three orders every 30 minutes, to avoid congestion in front of the store. The local family-owned pizza chain said on its Facebook page it hopes to open its Solon location. by Feb. 1. Pet Supplies Plus will soon be moving down SOM Center Road, from its location near Marc's to the new Solon Village. Pet Supplies Plus is currently located next to Marc's. A "coming soon" sign is hanging outside the new location. And while no date has been set yet for the opening, it's expected to be soon. Once Pet Supplies Plus opens in its new location, Marc's will be able to proceed with plans to improve its storefront and expand into the space now occupied by the pet store. Other new businesses slated to open soon at Solon Village include Antonio's Pizza and Best Cuts. Work is also underway on a new Giant Eagle Market District, the grocery chain's high-end brand. That store is expected to open later this year.

Today is the much-anticipated opening for Starbucks in Solon Village
At long last! Starbucks is here in Solon. The much-anticipated coffee house opened today in Solon Village. Solon residents have been anxiously awaiting another coffee option in town. The coffee shop is located at the new building at the shopping plaza, the same location as Menchies and GNC. Starbucks has a drive-thru for on-the-go customers too! The coffee shop is offering buy one, get one free on holiday beverages this Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.

The Solon City Council will vote tonight on whether to extend a development moratorium on land near Solon Village until after the May election, when voters will decide on their parcel.
A developer wants to build something, maybe a restaurant, on a parcel of commercially-zoned land near Solon Village. But Solon officials plan to rezone the land back to office zoning, which But city planners want to revert the land, once slated to be part of a redevelopment of the Solar Center shopping plaza, back to office zoning. The city expects to send the question to Solon voters in May, so on Monday night city council members will vote on whether to extend a development moratorium, set to expire before the spring election, until after voters have had their say. GetGo in Solon Village will open at 8 a.m. Monday, according to a news release from Giant Eagle. Giant Eagle has announced that the new gas station will open on Dec. 3.
