A Halloween Party for the kids is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Parkside Elementary.
The Solon Early Childhood PTA has lots of events throughout the year. None are as scary as the Halloween Party. Actually, the party is more about fun than about scares. It is being held at Parkside Elementary School in Solon and is set to last from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you bring your little ghost or ghoul, expect a fun-filled morning of Halloween activities and lots of entertainment, including bounce houses, face painting, crafts, games and treats. Halloween costumes, of course, are welcome. Do your kids like creepy-crawley critters? Of course they do! So make sure to stay for Outback Ray, who hosts a cool animal show featuring everything from snakes to hissing cockroaches! The animal show is from noon to 1 p.m. Happy Halloween!

Lt. Bruce Felton of the Solon Police Department talks about educating your child to keep him or her safe
After word spread about last Friday's attempted abduction of a 7-year-old Solon girl on Aurora Road, parents in the Solon Early Childhood Parent Teacher Association wanted to know what they could do to protect their children. They asked Solon Police Lt. Bruce Felton to speak at their first meeting of the year about how to educate children on the topic of strangers and how they should respond in what is considered a strange situation. Felton said the police department is following up on leads and won't stop until this man — described as a 5-foot-tall black man with a bushy mustache and wearing some sort of mask to conceal his face — is found. A police officer will talk about child safety at 7 p.m. tonight at the Solon Early Childhood PTA meeting.
A 7-year-old Solon girl nearly abducted from a car Friday was able to thwart her attacker by brandishing a pair of scissors. Detectives from the Solon Police Department are still searching for the man, described by the girl as a 5-foot-tall black man with a bushy mustache and wearing some sort of mask to conceal his face. "We want to catch this individual," said Lt. Bruce Felton, a police spokesman. "This is a very unusual incident in Solon." Sometime after 2 p.m. Aug. 19, a woman called 911 and told dispatchers that a man had tried to abduct her granddaughter from her parked car in a parking lot behind her apartment at 33000 Aurora Road.
