Lake Effect Snow Watch Issued For Region

Meteorologists warn that the eastern suburbs of Cleveland could receive between one and two feet of snow between Sunday and Wednesday

The National Weather Service has issued a lake effect snow watch for the region, warning that the eastern suburbs of Cleveland -- including Solon -- could receive as much as two feet of snow between Sunday evening and Wednesday morning. The snow will be caused by an arctic airmass that is moving into the area. Its cold air combined with the low pressure across the Great lakes will allow for the possibility of persistent lake effect snow across Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania. The snow could begin as early as Sunday evening, but it's expected to be at its worst from Monday afternoon through much of Tuesday. The snow will also be paired with a drop in temperatures. Blizzard Warning in Solon: Heavy Snow Fall Expected Wednesday

Blizzard could arrive by Wednesday morning to Cleveland area. Adjust travel plans accordingly.

‘Tis the season…for snow. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issues a “Blizzard Warning,” after canceling—and upgrading—a previously issued “winter storm warning.” Holiday travelers may want to adjust their plans accordingly. The blizzard warning in effect from 7 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26 to 7 a.m.  EST Thursday, Dec. 27. Cuyahoga County is included in the warning. Heavy snow will combine with northeast winds to create severe winter weather. The NWS advised of the following: Watch for any announcements from local authorities concerning your road conditions.  Precautionary/preparedness actions: A blizzard warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Thunderstorms, Damaging Winds, Hail Coming Solon's Way

A severe weather alert has been issued for Solon and other parts of Northeast Ohio

A strong storm producing damaging winds and quarter-size hail is moving southeast toward Solon. The National Weather Service has issued a severe weather alert for Solon until 1:15 p.m. today. The storm is also producing loud thunder and winds in excess of 60 miles per hour. The weather service advises anyone in the path of the storm to seek shelter inside as soon as possible.

The National Weather Service says there is a "slight" chance of severe thunderstorms later today as another system moves over Northeast Ohio. Hail and wind gusts are possible later this afternoon. Any storms are expected after 4 p.m. Thursday Forecast: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79 degrees. South wind around 16 mph.  Tonight Forecast: Showers and thunderstorms still. Low around 60 degrees.  Friday Lookahead: Morning thunderstorms, high temperatures near 71 degrees.
