Solon parents and community members are invited to a forum tonight on school safety hosted by Solon Schools and featuring a nationally renowned school security expert. Ken Trump, the president of National School Safety Security Services, will hold an informational meeting with parents and community members on Monday night. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight in the Solon High School auditorium. Trump will be in Solon for three days conducting a security assessment on the school buildings. During this one-hour program, Mr. Trump will conduct an overview of school safety to put present-day issues into context. Officials from the city of Solon and the Solon school board met Thursday to again discuss school safety issues and the way they can work together to make the city and the school buildings safer. Solon officials have been discussing security issues in detail since December's tragic school shooting in Newtown, Conn. Thursday's meeting included Solon Mayor Susan A. Drucker, Police Chief Christopher Viland, and City Council Safety and Public Properties Committee Chair Bill Russo, and members of the Solon school board and administration. A nationally renowned school security expert will be in Solon for three days conducting a security assessment on the school buildings. As part of his time, Ken Trump, the president of National School Safety Security Services, will hold an informational meeting with parents and community members on Monday night, Feb. 4. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Solon High School auditorium. During this one-hour program, Mr. Trump will conduct an overview of school safety to put present-day issues into context. Parents and community members will be able to provide feedback during the session as an element of the overall district reassessment process. School officials have proposed a series of steps to improve security at Solon school buildings in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in Newtown, Conn.
After a Tuesday meeting between Solon Schools leaders and Police Chief Chris Viland, Solon Superintendent Joe Regano has told parents they will immediately begin planning and implementing changes to the schools security procedures. The changes come in the wake of the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. The changes include: Regano says all changes, as they are implemented, will be discussed during regular public school board meetings.
