Skate Park Lives: Solon To Move Skate Park, Not Get Rid Of It

City officials plan to build a new Safety Town at the skate park location, but say the skate park will be moved elsewhere.

With Solon officials planning to build a permanent Safety Town where the skate park currently sits, many likely wondered if that meant the skate parks days were numbered. While the skate park is going to move, it will still be in Solon, said Don Holub, the city's recreation director. "We're not proposing to do away with it, but move it to a better location," Holub said. Holub said they would like to keep the skate park at the Solon Community Park, but still need to find a good location for it. Permanent Safety Town In The Works in Solon

The Solon Recreation Department, Solon Kiwanis Club and the Rotary Club of Solon are partnering to create a permanent safety town at the community park.

Solon has not had a permanent Safety Town to teach city children about safety for many years, but that could change this summer if City Council approves a plan to create a Safety Town at the community park. The Solon Recreation Department, Solon Kiwanis Club and the Rotary Club of Solon are partnering to create a permanent Safety Town at the community park, according to a memo from Recreation Director Don Holub. The safety town -- which would include painted roadways, houses and other city buildings and traffic signals -- would be built where the skate park is now, according to the memo.
