The Solon Recreation Department, Solon Kiwanis Club and the Rotary Club of Solon are partnering to create a permanent safety town at the community park.
Solon has not had a permanent Safety Town to teach city children about safety for many years, but that could change this summer if City Council approves a plan to create a Safety Town at the community park. The Solon Recreation Department, Solon Kiwanis Club and the Rotary Club of Solon are partnering to create a permanent Safety Town at the community park, according to a memo from Recreation Director Don Holub. The safety town -- which would include painted roadways, houses and other city buildings and traffic signals -- would be built where the skate park is now, according to the memo. The next distribution of the Solon Mobile Food Pantry is scheduled for Jan. 22 at the Church of the Resurrection in Solon.

The next distribution of the Solon “mobile food pantry” is Jan. 22 at the Church of the Resurrection on Cannon Road in Solon, between 5 and 6:30 p.m. Distributions will continue on a monthly basis thereafter on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Mobile Pantry visitors must meet income and residency requirements (income eligibility is restricted to 200% of federal poverty guidelines, currently $1,814 a month for one person or $3,724 for a family of four; recipients should be Cuyahoga County residents). Patrolman Roy Cunningham of the Solon Police Department and Inspector Joe Eisenhuth of the Solon Fire Department have been named the recipients of the 2013 Solon Police and Fire Awards, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Solon and awarded at a ceremony at Signature of Solon on January 9, 2013. Fire Department Chief William Shaw announced that Inspector Joe Eisenhuth was selected as this year's Fire Officer of the Year. The Rotary Club of Solon, Church of the Resurrection and the Solon Area Interfaith League has teamed up to provide a mobile food pantry for the poor.
Editor's Note: The information in this post was provided by the Rotary Club of Solon. A mobile food pantry has been established in Solon to distribute food on a monthly basis to recipients in need. The next distribution is November 27. Distributions are hosted on the 4th Tuesdays of each month (except December, when the distribution will be on December 18) at the Church of the Resurrection on Cannon Road in Solon.
