Solon High Student Named Presidential Scholar Semi-Finalist

Aditya Nair was named a Presidential Scholar Semi-Finalist.

A Solon High School student has been selected as a Presidential Scholar Semi-Finalist, and is one step away from potentially becoming one of this year's 141 honored scholars. Aditya Nair was named a semi-finalist. Four students from Solon High, and another Solon resident who attends University School were candidates but did not advance to the semi-final round. They are Rohan K. Achar, Stephen H. Tang, Thomas Y. Yi and Carlson Zou. The scholar candidates students were picked from a pool of thousands of students across the U.S. named as candidates in the annual Presidential Scholars Program, one of the nation's highest honors for graduating seniors. Five Students From Solon Named U.S. Presidential Scholar Candidates

Four Solon High School students and one Solon resident who attends University School were named U.S. Presidential Scholar candidates.

Four Solon High School students and one Solon resident who attends University School were named as 2013 U.S. Presidential Scholar candidates, one of the nation's highest honors for graduating seniors. The four Solon High candidates are Rohan K. Achar, Aditya Nair, Stephen H. Tang and Thomas Y. Yi, according to a list of candidates posted on the U.S. Presidential Scholars web site. Solon resident Carlson Zou, who attends University School, was also named as a candidate. Solon High Student Wins Presidential Scholar Award

Only two Ohio students were chosen for the honor, which is selected based on the student's academic success, artistic excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as evidence of community service, leadership, and demonstrated commitment

Lisa Guo, a senior at Solon High, was selected as a Presidential Scholar for 2012. She is one of only two Ohio students to win the award. The winners were announced May 2. Guo was one of four finalists from Solon High School, chosen from a pool of thousands of students across the country. Only 141 students won the award. Solon's other finalists were Oliver W. Chen, Michael B. Li and Johnathan Zeng. Guo was one of the Solon students honored by President Barack Obama at the White House Science Fair in February. She listed Robin Joseph, a Solon High social studies teacher, as her most inspirational.
