Road Closed After Plow Truck Hits Pole

The Solon Police Department expects a portion of Aurora Road to be closed for a few hours Saturday.

The Solon Police Department said an accident between a privately owned plow truck and a utility pole has a portion of Aurora Road closed for a few hours Saturday. The street is closed between Liberty and Pettibone Roads. The police department asked motorists to avoid the area.  At 12:30 p.m., the department posted on its Facebook page that the street would still be closed for another three to four hours.

Bottle Chucker on Pettibone Cited for Mischief

Neighbors involved in a decade-long dispute that usually results in trash throwing

A 64-year-old man was issued a criminal mischief citation on Friday for his part in a longtime, neighborly dispute. Mitchell Buckley, a Pettibone Road resident, threw a plastic bottle on his neighbor's lawn. Though it seems trivial, Solon Police Lt. Bruce Felton said the citation appears to stem from repeated calls from Buckley's 50-year-old neighbor over the years. The neighbor has repeatedly called police about an ongoing conflict that has typically resulted in Buckley throwing trash. "When I saw ongoing, I mean for at least the last 10 years," Felton said. "It's pretty ridiculous." Felton said police are unsure of the nature of the dispute or its origin. "I think if any of us knew how to get rid of this, we would," Felton said. "It's …

Man Charged With Stealing War Medals From 82-Year-Old Solon Veteran

The information in this report was provided by the Solon Police Department. An arrested does not indicate a conviction.

A Garfield Heights man said he stopped by the Solon home of his ex-girlfriend's father because he saw a Marine Corps flag on the ground and wanted to pick it up. But Solon Police think he had a more unpatriotic reason for stopping, and arrested 48-year-old Michael Sidoti, of Garfield Heights, and charged him with breaking and entering, a felony, according to an arrest report. On Aug. 3, the daughter of an 82-year-old Solon man called the police to say that a suspicious vehicle was in her father's driveway on Pettibone Road. The man wasn't living in the house for health reasons, so the home was empty. Police officer found a guy standing in the garage, who told them the house was owned by the father of his girlfriend, and that he stopped …

Change Order in Pettibone Road Project Questioned by Public Works Committee

Councilmen Bob Pelunis and Rick Bell questioned a change order that would add about $87,000 to the $14 million project

Two members of Solon's Public Works Committee are questioning a change order that would add $86,858 to the roughly $14 million project to rebuild Pettibone Road. But this might not be the only additional cost for the city, which has already approved three other change orders for the project, raising the price by nearly $1.6 million.  Law Director Thomas Lobe told the Public Works Committee that the city is discussing with contractor Kenmore Construction Company Inc. who will pay an additional $900,000 in costs.  Who will end up paying those costs remains up in the air, Lobe said. He said he and other city officials will be meeting with Kenmore representatives July 1. "It's an ongoing issue," Lobe said. As for the most recent requested …
