The Ohio Board of Education is holding off on the release of the report cards until an investigation is complete, but some info is coming near the end of the month.
The release of Ohio’s school report cards will continue to be delayed while the state auditor investigates whether some districts manipulated attendance data. The state Board of Education on Tuesday decided to release some of the information to the public around the end of September, Ohio Department of Education Associate Director of Communications John Charlton said in an email. The data will not include attendance rates, performance index or overall ratings, and the board has not set a date to release the full report cards at this time. Report cards for Ohio schools are supposed to be released Aug. 29. But state school officials may delay the release until September while the state auditor investigates whether school districts have manipulated data for better results.
A data-tampering scandal may cause the Ohio Department of Education to delay the release of the school report cards until September, reports the Columbus Dispatch. The report cards are slated to be released Aug. 29. The Dispatch reports that the state auditor is currently investigating whether some districts, including Columbus, have manipulated data to obtain a better score. The allegations, which began in Columbus schools, are that school employees withdrew and then re-enrolled students so their test …

The latest state report card for Solon City Schools recognized that the schools are excellent, but removed the "excellent with distinction" tag the schools had earned previously, despite this year's higher performance. What gives? Essentially, the reason is that Solon students are already performing at a very high level and there's little room for improvement. The excellence "downgrade" comes down to two different ways the state measures student progress in Ohio's more than 600 school districts. One way is with the Performance Index Score, which measures "the acheivement of all students over time," according to Solon school officials. That score – built by results from standardized tests – measures a school's effectiveness by taking a …

Should we... what? I'm not sure I understand the question. Do you mean: "Should we start allowing public schools to keep minimum GPAs and afford our administrators easier paths to expel students"; OR: "Should we make comparisons between schools that can do those things and schools that cannot"?   more ›
