Solon Schools Staff To Receive Security Training

Staff from Solon Schools will receive training from school safety consultant Ken Trump on April 2.

Solon Schools staff will receive a day of school safety and security training on April 2. Students will be off school that day as principals, teachers and staff receive training from school safety consultant Ken Trump, who has been hired by the school district to help improve school building security in the wake of the Newtown, Conn. shooting. School Security Expert To Meet With Solon Community Tonight

Ken Trump, a nationally known school security expert, will meet with Solon parents at 7 p.m. tonight to discuss school security issues.

Solon parents and community members are invited to a forum tonight on school safety hosted by Solon Schools and featuring a nationally renowned school security expert. Ken Trump, the president of National School Safety Security Services, will hold an informational meeting with parents and community members on Monday night. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight in the Solon High School auditorium. Trump will be in Solon for three days conducting a security assessment on the school buildings. During this one-hour program, Mr. Trump will conduct an overview of school safety to put present-day issues into context. Solon City, School Officials Meet Again To Discuss School Security

Officials from the city of Solon and the Solon school board met Thursday to again discuss school safety issues and the way they can work together to make the city and the school buildings safer. Solon officials have been discussing security issues in detail since December's tragic school shooting in Newtown, Conn. Thursday's meeting included Solon Mayor Susan A. Drucker, Police Chief Christopher Viland, and City Council Safety and Public Properties Committee Chair Bill Russo, and members of the Solon school board and administration. Solon Schools To Hire Nationally Recognized School Safety Expert To Study Building Security

Superintendent Joe Regano said Solon Schools is working on a contract with Kenneth Trump, a Cleveland man who is a nationally recognized expert on school security.

Solon Schools plans to hire a nationally recognized school safety expert to assess the security of its school buildings, one of many steps the district is taking in the wake of the school shooting in Newtown, Conn. Superintendent Joe Regano said a contract has yet to be finalized, but the schools plan to bring in Kenneth S. Trump of National School Safety and Security Services to re-evaluate the school buildings. Trump lives in the Cleveland area and is a nationally recognized expert in school safety who was expressing concerns about school safety even before the Columbine shooting in 1999, Regano said. Solon Schools To Update Security Measures After Newtown Shootings

School officials have proposed a series of steps to improve security at Solon school buildings in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in Newtown, Conn.

After a Tuesday meeting between Solon Schools leaders and Police Chief Chris Viland, Solon Superintendent Joe Regano has told parents they will immediately begin planning and implementing changes to the schools security procedures. The changes come in the wake of the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. The changes include: Regano says all changes, as they are implemented, will be discussed during regular public school board meetings. He writes in a letter to parents: The Board and I are taking what we believe is responsible action to get us started in making necessary changes just as you expect. Area Man Arrested For Facebook Post Supporting Sandy Hook Gunman

A Medina man was charged with inducing panic after he posted a status update supporting the school shooting in Newtown, Conn.

A Medina man posted support for the Sandy Hook gunman on Facebook, leading to a charge of inducing panic, reports WKYC Channel 3. Joseph Resovsky, 20, told the news station he was only trying to prove a point with his post by showing that people forget about things easily. His post, according to WKYC: "I'm so happy somebody shot up all those little (expletive). Viva la School Shootings!!!!" Medina Police say they received tons of calls and complaints about the post. The debate has heated up in the days after the school shooting in Connecticut.

What do you think about the gun laws in Ohio—are they not strict enough or do restrictions need to be scaled back? It’s a question that has recently taken on more weight in the days following a deadly school shooting in Connecticut.  Ohio’s gun laws have been becoming more lenient in recent years, the Columbus Dispatch reports, pointing to a variety of new laws. That includes one passed in 2011 to allow concealed-carry weapons in bars.  And it’s likely that the restrictions will loosen even further soon. Gov. In wake of the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, Dick’s Sporting Goods, one of the largest sporting goods retailers in the world, has suspended sales of certain kinds of semi-automatic rifles from its store nationwide. The company, which is headquartered in Moon Township, PA, also has removed all guns from its chain closest to Newtown, Conn. The move follows a decision made by Walmart, which pulled the Bushmaster gun from its website on Monday. In a statement, Dick's said the move was made out of respect to the victims and families of Newtown. Friday’s shooting left 20 children, all between the ages of 6 and 7, and six adults dead. In the wake of the Sandy Hook school shooting tragedy, parents are wondering what to tell their children about what happened and how to help them process what they may be hearing from friends, on television and via social media.
