Lady Comets Soccer Defeats Kent, Plays District Final Saturday

The Lady Comets will take on Hudson at 3 p.m. Saturday at Stewart Field for the district championship.

Defeating Kent Roosevelt 4 to 1 on Tuesday evening, the Lady Comets now advance to District Finals on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Stewart Field. The Lady Comets need your support as they take on Hudson for the District Championship and earn the opportunity to advance to Regional play. At the halfway point, Solon led 1 – 0 on a penalty kick scored by Maria Collica. Collica scored a second time in the second half following goals by Natalie Ockunzzi and Emily Russell. Kristen Confroy made great saves keeping Kent Roosevelt off the scoreboard until they were awarded a direct kick on a Solon foul late in the second half. Solon Girls Soccer Advances In Playoffs With 4-0 Win

The girls defeated Cuyahoga Falls 4-0 behind two goals from Ari Daukks.

The Lady Comets soccer team defeated Cuyahoga Falls 4-0 on Oct. 18 to advance to the next round of the state playoffs. The Comets were led by a strong defense and two goals from Air Daukks. Up next for Solon is a matchup against Kent Roosevelt, who defeated Twinsburg on penalty kicks last night. Solon and Kent will play on Oct. 23 in the district semi-final match. The Comets are the top seed in the district. Congrats Comets!

Solon Soccer Teams Prepare For Playoffs

Both the Solon girls and boys soccer teams are getting ready for their postseason tournaments, which begin this week with home games at Stewart Field.

After great regular seasons, the Solon girls and boys soccer teams are preparing for the playoffs. The girls soccer team had a bye in the first round of the tournament, and will play Cuyahoga Falls on Oct. 18 at Stewart Field in Solon. Cuyahoga Falls defeated Warren G. Harding on Oct. 15 to advance to play the Comets. Check out the OHSAA website to see the girls regional bracket. The boys soccer team also has a bye in the first round, and will play the winner of the match between Kent Roosevelt and Macedonia Nordonia. That game will be played on Oct. 20 at Stewart Field in Solon. Check out the OHSAA website to see the girls regional bracket.

Lady Comets Golf Advances To District Tournament

A third place finish in sectionals means the Lady Comets golf team will play in the district tournament next week.

The Solon Lady Comets golf team placed third in sections, and the team will now advance to the District Tournament next week in Massillon. The Comets collected a team score of 367. They were led by junior Alexis Gray with a score of 81, tied for the second-best individual score of the day. Freshamn Rachel Markle was just behind Gray with a score of 89. Other scores were: Alyssa Gray (92), Shannon Finnerty (105) and Leah Wilson (106). The District tournament is scheduled for Oct. 9 at The Legends of Massillon course in Massillon, Ohio. Tee times are to-be-announced. If the team scores well enough in districts, the Comets can advance to the state tournament. Good luck Comets!

Golfer Alexis Gray Medals In Fourth Straight Conference Match

The Solon girls golf team played well but lost at home to Hudson Wednesday by a score of 183-188.

The Solon girls golf team played well but lost at home to Hudson Wednesday by a score of 183-188. The Comets drop to 6-3 in the NOC Valley Division. Hudson finishes the conference season at 9-1. Alexis Gray shot a 40 and medaled for the fourth straight conference math. Other scores were Alyssa Gray (47), Rachel Markle (47), Leah Wilson (54), Shannon Finnerty (54) and Meredith Joseph (56).

Solon Girls Soccer Defeats Brecksville, Twinsburg This Week

The Solon Lady Comets soccer team defeated Twinsburg 2-0 on Sept. 12 and Brecksville 1-0 on Saturday.

The Solon Lady Comets soccer team continues to excel, defeating Twinsburg and Brecksville with shutouts this week. The Comets won over rival Twinsburg 2-0 on Sept. 12 with goals by Maddie Kresevic and Natalie Ockunzzi. Then on Saturday, Solon defeated Brecksville 1-0 with a goal by Kresevic. The shutout, spearheaded by Goalie Kristen Confroy, was already the Comets sixth of the season. The Comets are 8-1 this season.

Solon Girls and Boys Both Excel During Tuesday's Matches

The Solon boys golf teams defeated Mentor with another great score and the girls took down Strongsville.

Both Solon golf teams are rolling right now with strong performances Tuesday. The boys varsity team followed up to the best score posted in seven years last week versus Cuyahoga Falls by matching that total Tuesday with another total of 149 against Mentor at Blackbrook. Justin Razzante fired a one over par 36, Nick Breetz and Zach Mandry both posted rounds of 37 and Eric Rudary carded a 39 for the 149 total.  The team travels to Nordonia today for a tri-match vs. Nordonia and Tallmadge. The team then hosts Twinsburg on Thursday.   The girls team defeated Strongsville by a score of 186-196 at Valleaire Golf Club on Tuesday. Leading the scoring for the Lady Comets was medalist Alexis Gray with a 39. Other scores for Solon were: Rachel Markle…

Support the Comets: Solon Volleyball Plays Two Home Matches This Week

The Volleyball team takes on Brunswick on Sept. 11 and Medina on Thursday

Come support your Lady Comets Volleyball teams this week as they play two matches in the friendly confines of Solon High School. The freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams have two home games this week. The first is tonight against Brunswick. On Thursday, the Comets take on Medina. The Comets began their season with a win against Stow, but then lost to Strongsville last week. Each set of matches begins with the freshman at 4 p.m., the JVs at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity match at 7 p.m. Good luck Comets!

Therese Haiss Leads Solon Girls Cross Country at Tiffin Carnival

Solon girls cross country team took 7th out of 33 teams, including a first place finish by senior Therese Haiss.

At the Tiffin Carnival, the Solon girls cross country team took 7th out of 33 teams, including a first place finish by senior Therese Haiss. Many of the Comet runners ran a new personal best.  Haiss tied her career best time of 18:18. She was followed by sophomore Geneva Sandridge and freshman Louiza Wise who took 17th and 19th place overall and ran their best times of 19:25 and 19:35 respectively.  Our fourth and fifth runners both ran personal best times, Julia Haiss (21:00) and Paige Myers (21:49). This coming weekend the Comet runners head to the McDonough Invitational.
