Solon Lacrosse defeated rival Hudson 10-8 in Hudson Friday night. Solon was paced by Sam Littman, who scored four goals and collected an assist. Goals were also scored by Tres Barksdale (two), Sean Smith (two), Drew Barksdale and Jordan Rodriguez Also assisting on goals were Smith and Tres Barksdale. Solon Goalie Josh Low collected six saves.
Humphrey scores six goals to lead Comets to win
Well, what do you know? Solon’s Chris Humphrey can fly. Humphrey scored five crucial goals in a stretch that blew open a tight lacrosse contest in the second half against North Canton Hoover. But his final goal was his masterpiece as he leapt into the heavens to pull in a pass from fellow teammate Matt DiCarro and splashed home a spectacular score that left no doubt as to the contest’s outcome or its top player. “I didn’t know it was going to be that high,” Humphrey said of the pass. “It felt real good. Solon Lacrosse continues to win and win big. The Comets defeated Cleveland Heights 15-2 on Saturday, led by Sam Littman with four goals and Matt Dicarro with three scores. Solon senior Michael Perrino had to wait three years and two overtimes, but he finally got the measure of the Hudson boys’ lacrosse team. Reeling in a pass from fellow senior Matt DiCarro, Perrino splashed home the game-winner at 3:46 of the second overtime to defeat Hudson, 13-12, and cap an improbable rally to beat the Explorers for the first time in his high school career Thursday night at Solon High School. Down a goal with 24 seconds remaining in regulation, DiCarro flipped a pass to Sam Littman who scored at point-blank range to tie the game after the Comets were down, 12-8, with a little over six minutes remaining in the game. Comets have talent and experience for tournament run
The growing pains are over for the Solon lacrosse team. This season's Comets are poised to make their biggest strides yet under head coach Hans Rydquist. "There is a lot of experience and our expectations are high," said Rydquist, in his seventh season at Solon. "We return four of our top five leading scorers, two of three starting defenders and our starting goalie. The players' expectation is to make it to the state finals." Rydquist, an All-Ohio player at Hudson High School and an all-conference competitor for Wittenberg University, took his team to the regional semifinals last year before losing to Medina.
