The Solon Comets football team will play an old rival in the 2013 season as the schedule gets overhauled.
The 2013 Solon Football schedule has been completed and features some significant changes, with the Comets preparing to face five different teams than last year. Starting with the non-conference portion of the schedule, Solon will rekindle a long rivalry with Kenston and begin a two-year stint with Willoughby South. The Comets will also play Valley Forge, Mayfield and Hudson, all new to the schedule next season. Solon will still play rivals Twinsburg and Mentor along with other Valley Division opponents Strongsville and Brunswick. Glenville also remains on the schedule from last season. Two first quarter touchdowns on the final Friday of the football season were enough to lead the Solon Comets over Strongsville. The Comet's 13-6 win in Strongsville brought their final record to 5-5. Strongsville falls to 2-8. The Comets scored twice in the first quarter on a run from Khoury Crenshaw and a pass from Drew Barksdale.

Twinsburg scored 15 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to defeat Solon 29-22
Last year, the Solon Comets broke the hearts of the Twinsburg Tigers. On Friday night, the Tigers returned the favor. Twinsburg scored 15 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to come from behind and stun the Comets in Solon, 29-22. The Tigers are now 5-3 and Solon falls to 4-4. Tigers senior running back Tyrone McGuinea scored from two yards out with 1:25 left in the game. The Comets got the ball back at the 8 yard line and 1:21 left, but was unable to convert a fourth down. Solon jumped to a lead early when George Berry scored on a 1-yard run from the quarterback position. Last season, a strong Comets football team fought valiantly but fell short to Mentor in a stunning playoff game. This year, both Solon and Mentor have regrouped. And while some of the star players remain, these two teams are different heading into Friday night's Valley Division showdown than they were a year ago while retaining some core players. Mentor is 5-1 behind the strong and accurate arm of quarterback Mitch Trubisky, who is connecting often with standout receiver Brandon Fritts.
