Ramone "Raymone" Clements, accused of chaining dog Forrest to a tree in Cleveland Heights and shooting him, is to appear in federal court this afternoon on related charges.
About 100 people gathered at Public Square today to rally for lawmakers to make animal abuse a felony in Ohio. The Rally for Reform was scheduled on the same day as a hearing for Ramone "Raymone" Clements, a Cleveland man accused of chaining a dog to a tree in a Cleveland Heights park and shooting him. Clements pleaded not guilty to charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon, according to The Plain Dealer. He is scheduled to appear in court next Monday afternoon. The man accused of shooting a bull mastiff faces up to 24 years in prison if convicted. Prior to the start of Raymone Clements trial, a rally for animal rights is planned in downtown Cleveland.

Ramone Clements, the man accused of shooting Forrest the dog (now a Solon resident) and leaving him for dead in a Cleveland Heights city park, was arrested in Cleveland this morning. Clements was indicted by a federal grand jury on Wednesday and a warrant was issued for his arrest. A U.S. Attorney spokesperson said that Clements was arrested on Finn Avenue in Cleveland at around 11 a.m. today. Clements was charged in December with shooting the dog, now adopted and named Forrest, in the face and shoulder at Forest Hill Park in Cleveland Heights. A dog that was tied to a tree and shot in Forest Hill Park last year has found a home in Solon. PAWS, the animal rescue agency that took Forrest in after he was found by a dog walker the morning after the attack, posted a video (above) on Facebook of Forrest arriving at his new home. Forrest, a mastiff that was shot twice and left for dead in Cleveland Heights, has found a home in Solon, reports WEWS Channel 5. Forrest's plight became a big story last year after his owner tied him up in a park in Cleveland Heights, shot him twice and left him to die. The dog survived the night and was found by a walker the next day, according to Cleveland Heights Patch. Forrest, given that name by his rescuers with Public Animal Welfare Society of Ohio (PAWS), has been nursed back to health and is now living on 10 acres of land in Solon, reports the news channel.
