The opening of Starbucks, Menchies and more businesses is getting closer.
The new building at Solon Village will soon be opened for its new tenants to start prepping for their grand openings. Planning Director Rob Frankland said that developer Echo Solon expects to open the building for its tenants -- including Starbucks, Menchie's and others -- on Oct. 1. It's unclear right now when the businesses will open, but we'll report that information as soon as we can. Frankland said the city has received sign applications from Starbucks, Menchies, UPS and GNC. He expects to receive more applications in the coming weeks. Starbucks will be located in the northern end of the new building, and will have a drive thru. The building has been under construction the past few months, and will be the first part of the multi-step …

The city had already agreed to pay the developer up to $140,000 for its $16.9 million investment at the plaza. But with the news that the new Giant Eagle will now be a high-end Market District store, the city decided to increase the grant to $200,000. Under the revised agreement, the grant would be paid in a three-year period, with $50,000 each in the first and second year and $100,000 in the third year. City Council members praised Echo Solon for their hard work on the project, and are pleased to bring the Cleveland area its first Market District store. "I've gotten a ton of comments that residents are so …

The Solon safety committee signed off Wednesday on the site plan for a redesigned Solar Center, including a new . Wednesday's action was needed before the project can receive final approval from the city, came after the committee received a briefing from the city's traffic engineer. The committee examined the site plan from a safety perspective. Traffic Engineer Kevin Westbrooks told the committee that the reconfigured shopping center should have roughly the same amount of traffic since all the access points will remain the same and the square footage of commercial space will only increase slightly. "Because of access points not changing, the size not changing and uses that are going to be somewhat similar, we didn’t see a need for big …
