A Bedford woman faces charges of drunken driving and drug abuse after a Solon Police officer found her sleeping in her car in the middle of Aurora Road, according to a police report. Arrested and charged with Tamara Boykin, 37, of Bedford. She is charged with drunken driving, drug abuse, possession of drug paraphernalia and stopping or slow speed, according to the report. On Dec. 16 at about 3 a.m., a Solon Police officer found a car stopped on Aurora Road near the 31500 block. The brake lights of the car were on, and it was running. The officer approached the car to find a woman sleeping in the driver's seat with the car in drive and her foot on the brake. A Solon man with multiple prior drunken driving arrests was charged with drunken driving after police say he hit two mailboxes and a parked car while driving, according to a Solon Police report. Samuel Monachino, 44, of Solon, is charged with drunken driving, hit and skip and failure to control, according to the police report. According to the report, a resident on Woodlands Lane called police to tell them that a pickup truck had hit his parked car. He also said that the truck had first hit two mailboxes on Aurora Road, according to the report. Officers caught the pickup driver after he ran his truck onto a curb on SOM Center Road near Bainbridge Road. The driver refused a breathalyzer, according to the police report.

A 34-year-old man is charged with drunken driving after he essentially turned himself in by stopping to ask a Solon police officer for directions. Arrested and charged with drunken driving is Perry L. Allen, 34, of Lakewood, according to a police report. At about 1 a.m. on Dec. 8, A Solon police officer parked at the closed Sunoco Station at SOM Center and Aurora roads was approached by a man after a car pulled in behind him. The man asked the cop for directions to Stouffers. The man smelled like alcohol and had slurred speech, according to the report. The police officer conducted field sobriety tests. The man refused a breathalyzer test.

Local law enforcement agencies say they are looking for drunken drivers this holiday weekend, so take steps to be safe.
Thanksgiving Eve may be the biggest drinking night of the year. The police know that too. So if you are going to be drinking this Black Wednesday -- or the rest of this holiday weekend -- be safe and don't drink and drive. The Ohio State Highway Patrol says 17 people were killed in crashes last Thanksgiving weekend, and alcohol contributed to at least 30 percent of them. "We all share the responsibility of contributing to a safe holiday on Ohio roadways by obeying all traffic laws and never driving impaired," said Col. John Born, Patrol superintendent. A 62-year-old Garfield Heights man was arrested and charged with drunken driving after police found him relieving himself along the side of U.S. 422 on Nov. 17, according to Solon Police. Arrested and charged was Samuel L. Holcombe, 62, of Garfield Heights. He was charged with drunken driving. According to the police report, an officer on patrol at about 8 p.m. Nov. 17 spotted a pickup truck pulled over on the side of westbound U.S. 422 near Harper Road. The officer said that he watched the driver exit the truck, and stagger over to the side of the road and begin to relieve himself. He was arrested and taken to Solon jail. Solon Police arrested and charged an Oakwood Village man for drunken driving after he was found sleeping in his jeep at the intersection of SOM Center and Solon roads, according to a police report. Police arrested and charged David S. Gray, 62, with drunken driving and possession an open container of alcohol. According the report, Gray was found asleep with an open bottle of rum in the jeep on OCt. 25. He also had an open bottle of rum in the car. He blew a .280 on the breathalyzer test, according to the report. That's more than three times the legal limit of .08.
