Solon Diver Sivan Mills Commits to University of Pennsylvania

Mills, a standout diver for Solon High School, plans to dive in the Ivy League next year.

Sivan Mills, a senior at Solon High School, has committed to dive at the University of Pennsylvania (Penn) of the Ivy League next year. Mills was recruited by a number of Division I programs and ultimately decided to take recruiting visits to Penn, Cornell and Tulane. "It was a difficult decision to choose among these great schools and strong programs, but ultimately I felt most comfortable at Penn," Mills said.  She was the Amateur Athletic Union’s (AAU) National Champion on the 3 meter springboard in 2012, and was also the bronze medalist on the 1 meter board. Sivan has been diving for the American Flyers Diving Club team since second grade and has been coached by Marc Cahalane over the last four years for her club and high school team. …

Solon's Michael Kreft Repeats as State Diving Champion

Kreft finishes his high school career on top with his second Division I state diving championship in two years

Solon High senior Michael Kreft knew it was not going to be easy to repeat as a Division I state champion in diving. Kreft, who was second as a sophomore and state champion as a junior, proved worthy of being one of the participants featured on the program cover of the 84th Ohio High School Athletic Association swimming and diving championships at Canton's C.T. Branin Natatorium. That was by collecting a meet-best 506.25 points for the state title, outscoring runner-up Troy Richert of North Royalton, who finished at 474.20. "We like to keep it light," Kreft said. "I knew what I needed to do since he beat me at Viking," Kreft said of the big Christmas time meet held annually at Cleveland State University. Solon's Michael Kreft Wins State Diving Championship

Solon's Michael Kreft won his second state championship today, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. From the newspaper's article: Kreft, 18, scored 506.25 points during the 11 dives to hold off fival senior Troy Richert from North Royalton, who finished with 474.20.  Hudson freshman Alex Obendorf was third at 454.90. "I definitely faced more pressure coming into it,'' said Kreft, who will attend Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. "You can't move up. You can only fall.'' WRESTLING The Comets will be one of the teams to beat in this weekend’s Northeast Ohio Conference Valley Division championships to be contested at Garfield Heights High School. Action gets underway at 4 p.m. today and the finals will be held at 6 p.m. tomorrow. Solon finished the dual meet portion of the season with a 4-1 mark, one match behind Elyria. SWIMMING AND DIVING Solon senior Annie Marquiss had an outstanding meet at the Northeast Ohio Conference Championships held at Cleveland State on Saturday as she set two meet records. Marquiss, who placed 14th in the state in the 50 freestyle last year, won both the 50 freestyle (24.59) and the 100 freestyle (53.56) at the NOC meet. Her time in the 100 free broke the record set in 2008 by another Comet swimmer, Gretchen Hestley. Solon’s ladies also won the 200 free relay with the team of Kelsey McRill, …
