A settlement conference and, if necessary, a trial in Sally Deitrick's lawsuit against Mayor Susan Drucker has been pushed into next year.
A decision in the wrongful termination and age discrimination lawsuit filed by former Solon employee Sally Deitrick likely won't come until 2013, court records show. In August, attorneys representing the city and Mayor Susan Drucker asked for an extension, which was granted. A settlement conference is now scheduled for Jan. 10 and, if necessary, a trial date is set for March 11. The extension comes after the judge declined to dismiss the lawsuit in May. A settlement conference had been previously scheduled for Nov. 8. Deitrick alleges in the complaint that Drucker fired her because she was old, and that Drucker had an ax to grind against the city's older employers. Drucker countered that Deitrick was unreliable, untrustworthy and bad at …

The city has begun its defending itself against the wrongful termination lawsuit filed by the mayor's former secretary. The attorney representing the city of Solon and Mayor Susan Drucker in a wrongful termination lawsuit was in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court last week, asking Judge Peter J. Corrigan to dismiss the lawsuit. Attorneys for the city also filed an answer and counter-claim to Deitrick's original complaint, in which the former mayor's secretary accused Drucker and the city of wrongfully firing her because of her age and a pattern of discriminating against Solon's older workers. But city officials have said that Drucker fired Deitrick only for performance problems. Those problems, city officials say, are outlined in the …

Solon City Council decided to hire Thompson Hine to handle Sally Deitrick's wrongful termination lawsuit against the city and Mayor Susan Drucker.
Solon Vice Mayor Ed Kraus said the city decided to hire an outside law firm to handle a wrongful termination lawsuit against the city because of potential conflicts of interest and the firm's expertise in dealing with these kinds of cases. It's unclear how much the city is going to be paying Thompson Hine, a national law firm with an office in Cleveland, to handle the case. City officials said payment deals were still being worked out. But Kraus, who represents Ward 6 and is an attorney himself, said the city had good reasons to bring in outside legal help rather than rely on the city's Law Director Tom Lobe. "Sometimes when it involves an internal employee situation and matter, sometimes it's best to hire outside because of any potential …

Mediation is always the best move. Attorneys will escalate the commitment of each side to their stated position because that is their role. A mediator will break that slope and present reality to both sides. Bravo!   more ›
