Plow Truck Driver Cited In Crash That Closed Aurora Road

The information in this report is from the Solon Police Department.

A private snow plow driver was cited for failure to control after he hit a utility pole on Aurora Road on Dec. 29 that caused power outages and closed the road for much of the day, according to Solon Police. The driver, a 46-year-old Mentor man, said he lost control of the truck and hit the pole at about 5:33 a.m. The crash closed off Aurora Road between Pettibone and Liberty completely for hours, and the road did not re-open to two-way traffic until about 3 p.m., according to police.

Drunken Driver Strikes Parked Car, Mailboxes Before Arrest

A Solon man with multiple prior drunken driving arrests was charged with drunken driving after police say he hit two mailboxes and a parked car while driving, according to a Solon Police report. Samuel Monachino, 44, of Solon, is charged with drunken driving, hit and skip and failure to control, according to the police report. According to the report, a resident on Woodlands Lane called police to tell them that a pickup truck had hit his parked car. He also said that the truck had first hit two mailboxes on Aurora Road, according to the report. Officers caught the pickup driver after he ran his truck onto a curb on SOM Center Road near Bainbridge Road. The driver refused a breathalyzer, according to the police report.

Witness Chases Down Driver After Hit and Run on Rescue Vehicle

A Solon rescue squad was tending to injured motorists after a hit-and-run crash on U.S. 422 on Oct. 2 when another car struck a fire department vehicle and then sped off. A witness to that hit and run followed the car into Warrensville Heights, where the witness confronted the driver, removed the keys and called police, said Fire Chief Bill Shaw. Arrested and charged was Melissa Ault, 32, of Avon. She was charged with failure to stop within assured clear distance, drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident. Ault refused a breathalyzer test, according to the police report. Bridge Crash Survivor Is Home From Hospital And Recovering

Solon resident Katy Dardzinski is home from the hosptial and recovering two-and-a-half weeks after her car plunged off the side of U.S. 422 and landed on SOM Center Raod. Dardzinski, who blacked out while driving on Sept. 18, said she doesn't know why she lost consciousness but she is glad she didn't hurt anyone. Her 3-year-old daughter was in the car with her at the time, but was strapped into a child seat. "I don't know why I blacked out while driving but am so incredibly thankful that I didn't hurt anyone, including my daughter," she said in a comment on Solon patch. She added: "It's truly a miracle that I didn't hit anyone on the road. I can handle any injuries that come my way but would have been devastated if anybody else was hurt. I…

Car Hits Preschool: Driver Explains What Happened

A car struck the outside wall of Creative Playrooms in Solon on Thursday morning. No one was hurt.

The woman who drove her car into the side of a Solon preschool told Solon firefighters how it happened. The woman said her foot got stuck in her car's floor mat, according to the Chagrin Solon Sun. The car collided with the outer wall of Creative Playrooms on Solon Road in Solon on Thursday. No one was hurt in the crash. The students were in another section of the school. The crash remains under investigation.

Car Drives Into Solon Preschool

A car collided with Creative Playrooms in Solon, taking out a section of the wall.

A car collided with Creative Playrooms in Solon Thursday morning, damaging a large section of the wall. An employee of the preschool on Solon Road said no one was hurt, but would not say more. "All the children are fine," she said. Solon Police Chief Christopher Viland also confirmed that no one was hurt. Stay tuned for updates on this story.

Police: Drunken Driver Plows Into Parked Car, Doesn't Realize It

A Solon man was charged with drunken driving after he plowed into a parked car -- sending it flying 50-feet forward -- and then didn't realize his own car was damaged, according to Solon Police. Brett Hoherz, 34, of Solon, was charged with drunken driving and failure to control after a crash in the early morning of Sept. 18, police say. According to the police report, police arrived at the scene of a crash on Ada Drive to find a man standing near their smashed car and a passenger sitting inside with blood running down his face. Police say the man was surprised when the officers pointed out the damage to his car. The man's car hit a parked car, which then hit another car, according to the report. Drunken Driver Smashes Truck Into Tree on Aurora Road

A lucky man suffered only minor injuries after he nearly split his truck in half against a tree on Aurora Road, according to Solon Police.

A 48-year-old Cleveland man is lucky he was wearing his seatbelt. Just after midnight on June 28, Solon Police said the man lost control of his truck and smashed it into a tree near PNC Bank on Aurora Road. A police officer filling out paperwork in his cruiser watched the speeding truck lose control and slam into a tree, sending a puff of smoke and piece of the truck fly into the air, according to the police report. The truck was nearly split in half by the impact into the tree and had flipped over. The man was found hanging by his seatbelt in the truck. He suffered only minor injuries, but was transported to Hillcrest Hospital for treatment, according to police. Police said the man had been drinking before the crash. He faces charges of …

Breakdown May Have Contributed to Fatal Crash

Wood County officials say a witness' observations may point to a vehicle breakdown as a cause in the crash that killed Maliyah and Malaka Jones, but they may never know for sure

A witness who saw the crash last week that killed a mother and daughter from Solon gave investigators information that indicates the victims' car may have broken down, according to the Marietta Times. Maliyah Jones, 11, and her mother, 38-year-old Malaka Jones, both of Solon, were killed April 18 when a tanker truck struck their stationary car on U.S. 77 on the bridge crossing the Ohio River at the border with West Virginia. Also killed was Sherita Hogans, 29, of Cleveland.  Maliyah Jones was a fifth-grade student at Orchard Middle School. Sgt. Brett Pickens with the Wood County Crash Team said the witness' report shows the vehicle may have had a faulty alternator, perhaps causing it to stall on the bridge. Three People Killed in I-77 Crash Believed to Be From Solon

Solon Patch has not been able to confirm whether this crash is the same one that killed Malaka Jones and her daughter, Maliyah

Three people who died Monday in a fiery crash on I-77 in West Virginia were driving a vehicle registered to a Solon resident, and investigators believe the people killed were from Solon. Sgt. Brett Pickens with the Wood County Sheriff's Office told Solon Patch and other media outlets that they have yet to confirm the identities of the victims because of the extent of the damage. Pickens said they believe the victims are from Solon and that they are working with the families of those they believe are the victims to identify the remains. Solon Patch cannot confirm at this time whether this crash is the one that claimed the life of Malaka Jones and her daughter, Maliyah.
