Weed Smokers Crash Car Into Tree

Two Warren men were arrested and charged with drug abuse after they crashed a car into a tree in Solon because they were smoking weed while driving, according to Solon Police. The driver, a 19-year-old Warren man, lost control while driving east on U.S. 422 at about 10 p.m. on Jan. 27. The car left the road and hit a tree, according to the police report. The car was heavily damaged, but no one was hurt in the crash. Officials responding to the crash smelled burnt marijuana and also found about 30 grams of marijuana in the car. Both the driver and the passenger, a 36-year-old man, had been smoking, according to the report. Besides the drug charge, the driver was also cited for failure to control.

SOM Center Road Crash Study Recommends Ways To Improve Traffic Safety

An Ohio Department of Transportation crash study of SOM Center Road in Solon identifies options to make the road safer.

A Department of Transportation study of crashes on SOM Center Road in Solon recommends a number of options to make the heavily-travelled road safer. Some of the recommendations in the report, which was prepared and finalized in 2012, are already in city officials' plans, including updating Solon's traffic signal system and improving the timing of the traffic lights, scheduled to be finished in late spring or early summer. The city safety committee plans to discuss the report this Wednesday at City Hall. The study concentrated on a short section that included the 422 exits and entrances to Solon Road. Between 2008 and 2010, that area had 184 total crashes, with 59 on SOM Center and 125 on U.S. 422. Of those crases, 33 resulted in injuries. …

Woman Who Survived Bridge Crash: 'I Am Blessed'

Katy Dardzinski, 33, the woman who survived when her car fell between the bridges over SOM Center Road, updates Solon patch on her condition.

Katy Dardzinski, the 33-year-old woman who survived when her car drove off of U.S. 422 and onto SOM Center Road, has updated Solon Patch readers on her condition. Posting a comment on the original story about the crash, Dardzinski said that she has a long road to recovery, but she is grateful to her rescuers and glad her 3-year-old daughter, who was in the car, is fine. Dardzinski wrote: I was the driver in this accident with my daughter. I'm happy to say my daughter is fine. I however had to have back surgery, received countless units of blood, fractured sternum, a broken foot & am in tremendous pain. I will be out of work for several months. Woman and Daughter, 3, Survive After Car Drives Off Bridge

A 33-year-old woman and her 3-year-old daughter are lucky to be alive after their car plunged off of U.S. 422 on Tuesday and fell onto Som Center Road. The woman and her daughter were conscious and alert after the crash, and were transported to Hillcrest Hospital. The mother had some broken bones and the daughter was taken for observation, said Fire Chief William Shaw. "This is one of the most amazing accidents I've seen in my 28 years," Shaw said. At about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, the woman was driving east on U.S. 422 when she blacked out and lost control of her car. The car travelled between the two bridges over SOM Center Road, and launched off of the hill, flying into a guardrail on Route 91 below. Shaw said it's a miracle that no one was …

Intoxicated Man Arrested After Crashing Car, Fighting Cops

A Solon man ran a red light on April 24 and crashed into another car, sending the other driver to the hospital, according to Solon Police. Arrested and charged was Michael J. Abbene, 41, of Solon. He was charged with obstructing official business, resisting arrest, drunken driving, driving under suspension and carrying a concealed weapon. The owner of the car, Jennifer Amans, 33, of Solon, was also charged with wrongful entrustment and obstructing official business. She was the passenger in the car at the time of the accident, according to Solon Police. The police report says that at about 10:36 p.m. on April 24, Abbene ran a red light at Solon and Richmond roads and smashed into another car, being driven by a 48-year-old Sagamore Hills …

Solon Man Arrested After Crashing Car, Staggering Away

A 53-year-old Solon man was arrested April 12 after he staggered away from the scene of a car crash, according to Solon Police. The man, who lives on Sherwood Drive, was charged with drunken driving , leaving the scene of an accident, driving with an open container of alcohol and failure to keep assured clear distance. Witnesses told police that the man crashed his car near 34690 Cannon Road and then climbed out and began staggering around. One witness told the police that the man called someone on a cell phone and said he was leaving, according to the police. Woman Flees After Car Crash; Charged With Hit & Run

A Reminderville woman was charged with hit and skip after she left the scene of an accident at Harper and Bainbridge roads, according to Solon Police. Tammy Woyton, 44, was charged with hit/skip and driving in marked lanes. According to the accident report, Woyton is accused of drifitng into another lane and hitting another car, and then not stopping to deal with the aftermath of the crash. Witnesses took down the license plate of the fleeing car, and police arrested Woyton at her home. No one was injured in the crash.

WATCH: Driver Strikes Solon Police Cruiser

A Solon patrol officer is OK after his patrol cruiser was struck by another car near Harper and Aurora roads on Jan. 23. Patrol officer Roy Cunningham was treated and released at St. Vincent Charity Medical Campus in Solon. The other driver, 19-year-old Clarence M. Foster, of Garfield Heights, refused treatment. According to the police report, Cunningham had turned onto Harper Road near the Sunmart station when Foster turned left in front of him, striking the front of the cruiser. The police don't yet have a damage estimate on the police car, said Lt. Bruce Felton. Both cars were towed. Man Leaves Bloody Trail From Solon Accident Scene

A 31-year-old man left a bloody trail from a Solon car crash scene to his apartment building in Oakwood Village, where police believe he leapt from the fourth floor and then removed his blood-stained clothing. The man, Clinton Gurley, was taken to the hospital for treatment. Unfortunately for him, Gurley was charged by Solon police with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, drug abuse and failure to control, according to a police report. At about 2:25 a.m. on Sept. 2, Solon police responded to the corner of Richmond and Aurora roads after a car smashed into the guard rail. The driver was not at the scene, but a passerby stopped and told officers he had given a ride to a black man with a bloody head. He dropped him at the Solon Club …
