A Solon woman's debit card was used to fund four-figure bar tab in Spain
A Solon woman apparently bought a round for patrons of a Spanish bar without knowing it. The Bainbridge Road resident reported to Solon Police that her Third Federal Mastercard was charged $1,623.77 for drinks at Bar Morgan in Salou, Spain. The woman told Solon Police that she wasn't in Spain and did not make that charge. Also curious was that she still had the card on her. The woman will be re-imbursed for the charge by her bank, according to police.

Of the 959 cars that passed through the checkpoint Saturday night, police caught four drunk drivers and made arrests for other infractions
Solon Police conducted a drunk-driving checkpoint Saturday night in Solon. Today, the police department released the results from the checkpoint, which last from 9:45 p.m. until 1 a.m. Sunday. All told, 959 cars passed through the checkpoint Saturday, and 468 cars were checked by officers. Police made 15 arrests and issued three citatons. Here they are:

When confronted by school administrators, he said the white powder was for his feet and the oregano for his food
A 14-year-old Solon High School student was detained by police after school administrators found him trying to sell oregano and baby powder as drugs, according to Solon Police. When confronted by school officials on May 18, the teenager claimed that the baby powder was for his feet and the oregano was for "seasoning his food." The teen was detained and will be recommended to the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court on possible charges resulting from selling counterfeit drugs.

Listen to the 911 call from a woman on Royal Portrush Drive in Solon
A 49-year-old Solon woman called 911 on May 15 to tell police that her friend had "tore up" the outside of her house and doused her with lighter fluid. Police arrested Julian Luis Deayala, 49, of Houston, Texas, and charged him with assault, criminal mischief and intimidating a witness. According to police, the woman said she knew him from high school and that they started dating. "Oh my God, he's chasing at me, please," the woman told the dispatcher. According to the police report, Deayala was a guest at the woman's house on Royal Portrush Drive in the Signature One subdivision. She said he approached her in her bedroom and they began to argue. The woman said Deayala threw her down on the bed and then raised his fist, as if to punch her…

The man was pulled over after he drove through a red light at Aurora Road
A Chesterland man was arrested from drunk driving May 6 after he blew through a red light on Aurora Road, according to Solon Police. The man was able to produce his driver's license at the officer's request, but the insurance card became a problem. According to the police report, after two unsuccessful attempts at finding his insurance card, the man attempted to hand the officer a packet of wet-naps. The man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, and blew a .125 on the Breathalyzer test, which is over the legal limit.

The man, who was picked up after a traffic stop, was charged with aggravated menacing
A man pulled over by police May 10 for making an improper turn on Cochran Road in Solon was charged with aggravated menacing after police say he threated to kill the police officer. Rashawn Goins was arrested after the officer who pulled him over saw that he had outstanding arrest warrants and a suspended driver's license. After he was put into the back of the police cruiser, police say Goins threatened to kill the officer and his family. He repeated the death threats back at the station, so the cops tacked on the aggravated menacing charge.

About $1,600 in cash was stolen from machines in three Solon hotels
Between May 3 and May 4, a thief broke into numerous vending machines at three Solon hotels and stole cash. Solon Police say that vending machines at the Hampton Inn, Springhill Suites and Homewood Suites in Solon were broken into. Police estimate that the unknown thief made off with about$1,600.

Police say a Twinsburg man threatened to kill a woman Wednesday at the Solon restaurant
A Twinsburg man apparently never got over a "work-related issue" involving a Twinsburg woman 14 years ago, according to Solon police. On Wednesday, Joseph Dismond, 64, of Mathers Way in Twinsburg, was arrested for aggravated menacing. He is accused of threatening to kill a 50-year-old woman at the Honeybaked Ham in Solon because of an unspecified work issue from 14 years ago.

An 18-year-old and another teen were sitting in the apartment when they said a third teen walked in and stole the gaming system
On April 29, a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old were sitting in an apartment on Aurora Road in Solon. Next thing they knew, another teenager was kicking in the door, walking into the apartment and stealing their Xbox 360 gaming system. According to Solon Police, the teenager, a 16-year-old Solon resident, walked to a nearby apartment and went in. After the teenager was taken to the police station, he denied stealing the system. But two additional witnesses outside said they saw the theft happen. The teenager will be charged with either theft or burglary in juvenile court, and he was released to his parents.

A Solon woman was sentenced to 30 months in prison for her part in a mortgage fraud scheme, according to the Plain Dealer. Willia T. Burton, 52, of Solon, who was a loan officer with Quick Funding Mortgage, played a part in a mortgage scheme involving 17 properties and more than $1.5 million in loans. Burton pleaded guilty earlier this year to a charge of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Between November 2005 and August 2006, Burton prepared loan applications containing fraudulent information used by straw buyers to purchase homes in Cleveland, Warrensville Heights, Independence, East Cleveland, Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights.
