School Safety Reforms Central to President Obama’s Gun Control Proposal

The Twinsburg schools work hard to stay up-to-date on safety policies and procedures.

President Barack Obama presented a sweeping set of gun control recommendations last week, with many focused directly on increasing safety measures in schools. According to the Politics K-12 blog, the proposals signal a shift in federal priorities—the proposals ask for increases in school safety and mental health counseling funding, areas the administration has sought to cut in the budget in recent years. Check out the Politics K-12 post for a more in-depth look at the proposals, which includes creating model emergency response plans for institutions like schools and providing $50 million for training for professionals like social workers and counselors who plan to work with young adults. How Solon Residents Voted In the 2012 Election

We delve into election results to see how Solon residents voted on the presidential, senate and other races down the ballot.

Barack Obama won the national vote and he won in Ohio. He also won in Solon, according to unofficial vote totals from the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. While Cuyahoga County is a Democratic stronghold, Republicans needed to perform well in the suburbs to shave off votes from the president's total. While Romney performed better in Solon than he did countywide, he did not do enough. Obama collected 6,983 votes to Romney's 5,935. In addition, Solon residents also chose Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown over GOP challenger Josh Mandel. But Solon did not always go Democratic. David Joyce, the GOP candidate for U.S. Congress to replace Steven LaTourette, was picked by Solon voters over Democrat Dale Blanchard. They also chose state Sen. Tom …

I voted by mail last week. It sure would be nice for the B.O.E. to send me some type of confirmation to let me know that my vote was counted. I'm really suspect of the whole election process. The Bank I have used for the last 43 years won't cash my check anymore without my drivers license but people can vote without an I.D.   more ›

Barack Obama Re-Elected President

President Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.

President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan. NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you." The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. The race was filled with negative campaigning on both sides, from President Obama attacking Romney’s business experience with Bain Capital to Romney lambasting Obama’s handling of the economy. The race tightened during the final months of the campaign, with gaffes and surges …

Barack Obama Wins Ohio

Voters in Ohio on Tuesday cast their ballot for Barack Obama, giving the president the state's 18 Electoral votes.

President Barack Obama won Ohio’s 18 electoral votes on Tuesday, defeating Republican Mitt Romney. In the 2008 presidential election, the state voted for Barack Obama, and since the 1990s, has voted for the overall winner of the presidential race every time. Romney and Obama campaigned aggressively in Ohio. The state has typically been a battleground state in recent presidential elections.  The economy was a key issue for many voters in the state, as was healthcare.
