Solon Man Asks to Turn His Home Into Gun Shop

The planning department and zoning board of appeals turned down Dominic Picone's request to sell and manufacture firearms from his home

Dominic Picone had a simple request: To sell guns and maybe build machine guns, short-barreled rifles and shotguns from his home on Jaclyn Drive. But the City of Solon hasn't seen it that way. They understand that some people want to work out of their homes. A gun manufacturing operation – especially one that deals in weapons that can't be owned by the general public without a special license – isn't what they had in mind. "My concern is that this is not a customary home occupation," said Ward 3 Councilwoman Toni Richmond, who also sits on the planning commission. "I think of an accountant or a lawyer."
