Nishanth Uli, a Solon High graduate, lost in the semi-final round of the Jeopardy College Championship.
Nishanth Uli's quest to become Jeopardy! College Championship is over. Uli, a 2011 Solon graduate, lost in the semi-finals despite collecting $31,600 in the semi-final round, which aired Wednesday. Uli had $15,800 going into Final Jeopardy, and doubled his money by answering the question correctly. The category was "Famous Europeans" and the answer was "Oskar Schindler." But one of his opponents, Jim Coury from Georgetown University, won the day with risky gambles on Daily Doubles that paid off. Coury won with $32,604. Uli, a 2011 Solon High graduate who now attends Washington University in St. Louis, won in the preliminary round on the May 10 episode. He collected $$22,801 in that win. The Solon Lady Comets softball team celebrated its seniors but lost 2-1 to rival Mentor.
The Solon High School Lady Comets softball team lost to the visiting Mentor Cardinals 2-1 in a game that came down to the last inning. The Comets fall to 16-7 on the season. Solon's only run came on a booming home run from shortstop Kristen Confroy in the third inning. Solon had a chance to tie the game with a runner on second base with one out in the bottom of the seventh and final inning. But Mentor was able to end the game on a double play after the Cardinals shortstop caught a line drive and was able to tag out the Solon baserunner. Before the game the Comets honored their four senior players: Morgan Gersey, Heather Halleen, Gabby Lucarelli and Carly Simecek. The 40-pound wrestler who has had two heart surgeries was named co-rookie of the year by the Solon Youth Wrestling organization, reports our partners at WEWS Channel 5.
There's no wonder the Solon Youth Wrestling organization named Eric Boykin rookie of the year, as our partners at NewsNet5.com report. Eric Boykin, who turned 7 on April 16, struggles with opponents on the mats, but he's had a far tougher struggle with undiagnosed heart defects since he was born. The Parkside Elementary School first grader, who is all of 40 pounds, just started wrestling a few months ago and he's already an award-winning wrestler in Ohio. The champ went through two open heart surgeries which has put the Boykin family through what his mother, Holly, describes as a "tremendous roller coaster ride." Seven years ago in a Massachusetts hospital, Holly and Bill Boykin found themselves in the midst of a life-changing event. …

Becca Hoffman, a stand-out relay racer for the Solon Comets swim team, will continue her education and swim career at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Becca Hoffman, a stand-out relay racer for the Solon Comets swim team, will continue her education and swim career at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Becca is a three-year varsity letter winner for the Comets. She was an Ohio High School state qualifier on relays both her junior and senior years. Her split times at states this year were 50 freestyle 24.2, the 100 freestyle 54.5 and the 100 butterfly 100.2. Her fastest swims were at the district championship with splits of 23.6 in the 50 freestyle and 53.05 in the 100 freestyle. "Becca is one of the best relay swimmers we have ever had in the Solon swim program," said swimming head coach Mike Davidson. "Becca has a tremendous competitive attitude. She is a great racer."

Steve Greer, who played football at Solon High and the University of Virginia, has signed as an undrafted free agent with the Washington Redskins
Solon High graduate Steve Greer has signed with the Washington Redskins as an undrafted free agent. Greer's father told Solon Patch that his son signed a contract with the Redskins this weekend to take a crack at playing in the National Football League. "Blessed for this unbelieveable opportunity! Excited for the path ahead," Greer tweeted Saturday night. A linebacker, Greer was a standout at the University of Virginia from 2009-2012. He ended his college career with 376 total tackles, good enough for sixth-best in the history of Virginia football. Only Notre Dame's Manti T'eo had more career tackles among active BCS conference players, according to University of Virginia Athletics. Greer graduated from Solon High School in 2008.

Two young soccer players from Solon are among 16 other teammates from around Northeast Ohio to earn a spot on the Olympic Development Program Europe team.
Two Solon eighth grade students from Solon Middle School went on a 10-day trip March 23 to play soccer games on an Olympic Development Program Europe trip in Germany, the Czech Republic and Austria. Noa Mills and Samantha Rich are representing northeast Ohio Soccer on OYSAN ODP Europe team. They join 16 other soccer players on the OYSAN (Ohio Youth Soccer Association North) 2013 ODP (Olympic Development Program) Europe team. The eighteen girls along with their coach Tom Turner, director of OYSAN are also did some sightseeing during the trip. The girls team won their first game against a Vienna team by a score of 5-0 and tied the AC Sparta Praha team 2-2. They also had the opportunity to play in the largest stadium in the world. Both …
