Solon's Justin Bachman Wins Kohl's Scholarship

Bachman's work in organizing The Tolerance Fair earned him a $1,000 scholarship.

Solon teen Justin Bachman was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Kohl's Cares Program for his work in organizing the Tolerance Fair.

Bachman, 15, brought together over 125 organizations to help educate more than 3,000 people about personal differences.

Justin worked with local corporations and individuals to raise more than $42,000 in donations to ensure that anyone, regardless of financial means, could attend the fair, according to a news release.

Justin has come far since a fateful cross country meet in 2010. Bachman, who has Tourette's syndrome, was harrassed by a referee at that meet because of a misunderstanding over some of his vocal tics associated with Tourette's.

The last Tolerance Fair was in March at the I-X Center.

Bachman qualifies for one of Kohl’s 10 national scholarships, which will be announced at the end of July. National winners will each receive a total of $10,000 in scholarships and Kohl’s will donate $1,000 to a nonprofit organization on each national winner’s behalf.
