Solon Home Days Guide 2012: Friday Events

There's tons of stuff on tap for the 2012 edition of the Solon Home Days.

The 2012 Solon Home Days has tons of fun activities on tap for residents to enjoy during the four-day festival, which begins Thursday and ends Sunday.

Every day during the festival, we will provide more info on a few events. Our guide to the event is not all-encompassing, and simply offers highlights. To fully experience it, by all means get out to and check it out for yourself.

FRIDAY (Events begin at 5 p.m.)

SOLON HOME DAYS RAFFLE CONTINUES

What: Tickets for the raffle, organized by the Solon Benevolent Fund, are sold throughout the festival. Daily winners will be drawn, as well as featuring hourly prize packages, including cash prizes. All tickets will be eligible for the grand prize drawing held at 9 p.m. Sunday.

The grand prize is $5,000 cash, a donation from the Davis Automotive Group.

Cost: Tickets are $5 each or $20 for five tickets.

SOLON POLICE K9 STRYKER DEMONSTRATION

When: 7 p.m. Friday

What: Solon Police K9 Officer Matt Troyer and K9 Stryker will be holding a demonstraton at the Solon Home Days.

HOME DAYS CLOSEST-TO-THE-PIN CONTEST

When: There will be two preliminary rounds, one from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and the second on Saturday starting at 6 p.m. Finals will begin at 8:15 p.m.

What: Hey Solon golf pros, this is your chance to prove you're the real deal. The closest-to-the-pin contest is exactly what it sounds like: Purchase tickets to take your aim at the pin, which will be no more than 100 yards from the tee box. The top three golfers from each preliminary round will compete for prizes Saturday night in a championship round.

Cost: Three shots for $5. There is no limit to the number of shots you can take in the preliminary rounds.

Registration: You can register the day of the event. If you have questions, call the Recreation Department at 248-5747.

LIVE MUSIC SCHEDULE

The Daytrippers: Perform from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Block: Perform from 7:45 p.m. to 10:45 p.m.

PLAN AHEAD: KIWANIS PANCAKE BREAKFAST

When: 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday

What: The annual pancake breakfast, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Solon, will be held Saturday morning in the Community Center banquet hall. The breakfast includes pancakes, bacon, juice and coffee. The money raised from the breakfast will go toward the Kiwanis Club of Solon Scholarship fund and other community programs.

Cost: $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under
