Solon’s Early Childhood PTA (SECPTA) has begun its sixth year of Picnic Pals, weekly playdates for kids, at area parks, beaches and other fun spots.

"Our Picnic Pal events are open to both SECPTA and non-SECPTA members and older brothers and sisters, too," said Kate Isroff, SECPTA President for 2012-2013. "Bring old friends, meet new friends, pack a picnic lunch and learn a little more about all SECPTA has to offer your family."

  • June 4: Glenmeadow Park, located at 1957 Glenwood Drive, Twinsburg
Located on 47.18 acres, this park includes two tennis courts, a basketball court, playground and swings, animal sculpture park, lots of land for the kids to run and a covered pavilion.
  • June 7: Twinsburg Ledges, 9999 Liberty Road, Twinsburg
Visitors hiking the Ledges Trail will pass by a unique system of sandstone ledges, into Glacier Cave and a wetland before traveling back to the trailhead over a long boardwalk. The ledges are covered with a "living skin" of ferns, mosses and lichens. Endangered bats and other species including, biologists say, at least one black bear live in the area. For the protection of natural resources, please stay on the trail. This trail is not suited for strollers but baby backpacks would be great!
  • June 13: Aurora Fire Station and Kiwanis at Moore Park, 65 West Pioneer Trail, Aurora
Join us for an extra special Picnic Pals event as we meet some of Aurora’s finest firefighters along with a 10 a.m. tour of their great trucks and equipment! After the tour, plan to play at the park! The park offers several playground structures, an athletic field, picnic tables and pavilion.
  • June 19: Preston’s H.O.P.E., 26001 South Woodland Road in Beachwood
Come and enjoy the largest fully accessible playground park in Northeast Ohio. This fabulous playground features make-believe houses, raised walkways, a play theater, sand & water areas, swings, tunnels, slides, and much more. Restrooms and shelter areas are available.
  • June 22: at Glen Chamberlain Park, 10075 Ravenna Road, Twinsburg
Located behind Glen Chamberlain School and the municipal outdoor swimming pool, this park includes shaded playgrounds, basketball courts, tennis courts, picnic shelters, a sand volleyball court, skate park, and an outdoor amphitheater.
  • June 25: Arthur Road Elementary School, 33425 Arthur Road, Solon
Kids are encouraged to bring their push toys and bikes to this enjoyable playground, as there is a great parking lot for riding!
  • June 28: River Road Park, 17628 River Road, Bainbridge
This park is a favorite among many. There are paved trails for walking, strollers, roller skates and bikes. Two playgrounds provide enough equipment for all ages. The beach volleyball courts typically double as a sandbox so bring your toys! There is a picnic shelter and portable toilets.
