Mentor is now 7-0. The Comets fall to 6-1. The loss snapped Solon's 26-game regular season winning streak.

The Comets got off to a shaky start with two fumbles in the first half, giving Mentor great field position both times. The Cardinals frankly didn't need it: Trubisky led them up and down the field at will. They put 27 points on the scoreboard in the first half.

But Solon clawed back from the turnovers with gutsy coaching from Head Coach Jim McQuaide, who decided to go for a crucial fourth down near the endzone near the end of the second half. They converted to score a touchdown on a 9 yard pass from Quarterback Pat Kramer to wideout Tres Barksdale.

Solon snatched a sliver of momentum by recovering a surprise onside kick to open the second half.

But then Mentor's defense dug in their heels and forced the Comets to punt. Mentor went on to score 17 second half points on touchdown runs from Trubisky and Connor Krizancic.

Also scoring for Mentor was kicker Tomislav Derezic, who kicked three field goals, including a 50-yarder.

Kramer finished with three touchdown passes and an interception. He threw touchdowns to Barksdale, Darian Hicks and Cory Stuart.
