Two local high school football powers will collide next season when Cleveland Glenville visits on Aug. 31.
The Glenville Tarblooders, coached by Ted Ginn Sr., has produced some famous college and professional athletes in the past, including Ted Ginn Jr. and Troy Smith, who won the Heisman Trophy at Ohio State.
Solon signed a two-year contract with Glenville, with the Tarblooders playing in Solon in 2012 and 2013.
Glenville plays in the Cleveland Senate League. The team was 6-3 last season.
"The addition of Glenville to our upcoming schedule adds even more excitement to this off season for us," Head Coach Jim McQuaide said in a news release. "Our schedule definitely just became more challenging since we have added a nationally recognized team in Glenville. Our guys are working hard to be able to accept the challenge presented by everyone on our 2012 schedule."
Glenville will be the second home game for Solon in 2012, with the Comets opening the season against Shaker Heights on Aug. 24.
The Comets will travel to North Royalton for a Northeast Ohio Conference crossover game. Visits to Mentor, Brunswick, and Strongsville are planned for this year’s Valley Division play and Stewart Field will be the site of six home games for the Comets.
A major advantage for the Comets is they will six of their 10 regular season games in the friendly confines of Stewart Field. Shaker Heights, Glenville, Akron Buchtel, Normandy, Medina and rival Twinsburg will all visit Solon.
"We are thrilled that we were able to secure six home games this year," McQuaide said. "Our fans make Stewart Field one of the best Friday night atmospheres in the state and allow us to be successful."
