Solon Comets Roll Over Kilbourne 34-0

An overpowering defense and big-play offense led the Comets over Worthington Kilbourne

The Comets (2-0) were more steady against Kilbourne and didn't have the late lapses that slightly marred last week's .

"We did a better job of being consistent tonight," Coach Jim McQuaide said after the game. "We talked about that alot this week, and I think we did that."

McQuaide said he was proud of his defense, especially his younger players who stuffed the Wolves (1-1) on a goal-line stand late in the fourth quarter.

"The defense played well," he said. "The young guys made a huge stand there."

Offensively, the Comets moved the ball all over the field, sparked by a spread-the-wealth running game, sharp passing from Quarterback Pat Kramer, who threw for 158 yards and a touchdown, and a good night for wide receivers Tres Barksdale and Cory Stuart, who had four catches for 70 yards.

Stuart caught a long fade down the sideline to set up a Comets touchdown and Barksdale turned a short hitch route into a long run that saw him nearly score -- he was dragged down just outside the endzone.

Also stepping up was backup quarterback Drew Barksdale, who slashed through the defense on a touchdown run and provided a good change-of-pace from Kramer.

"We think they are both good players," McQuaide said.

Β Nick Davidson and George Berry added rushing touchdowns.Scoring through the air for the Comets was C.J. Hanna. Alex Knight was 2 for 2 on field goals, including a long 41-yarder.

Solon has its first home game Sept. 9, and it proves to be the Comets biggest test of the young season.Β

Coming to town is Akron Buchtel, last year' Division III state runner-up.
