Solon Comets Announce Fall 2011 Football Schedule

Coming off an undefeated regular season, the Comets will play Akron Buchtel

The Solon Comets have announced their 2011 football schedule.

The Comets have always played one of the area’s top schedules. That schedule gets even tougher as the team will open the home portion of its 2011 slate against Division III state power Akron Buchtel.

Buchtel is the home opener on Sept. 9. The Griffins made it all the way to the Division III state title game last season before falling.

“We are thrilled to have Akron Buchtel on our 2011 schedule,” said Solon Head Coach Jim McQuaide in a news release. “Buchtel has proven over the years that they are a premier Ohio program and they come off a tremendous season in 2010. The Griffins will be a great challenge for us the next two years.”

Solon opens the season with two big road tests at Shaker Heights and at Worthington Kilbourne.

The Comets will take a 20-game regular season win streak into the new season and will hope to add on to their 18-game home win streak at Stewart Field.
