The boys’ soccer team tied Brecksville Saturday night 2-2 at Stewart Field.

Three of the four goals of the evening came on corner kick plays. For most of the rain threatening evening, it was a defensive struggle as both teams moved the ball but neither could find the net.

Brecksville did score first with 31 seconds left in the first half off a misdirection play from a corner kick.

In the second half, the side referee called a penalty on a Brecksville defender for impeding Orlando Cumberlander in the Brecksville box. Junior Scotty Welker calmly took the penalty kick and scored to even the contest.

Solon then went ahead a few minutes later when Sophomore Johnny King headed a corner kick in that was delivered by Cumberlander. However, Brecksville came back and scored another goal on a corner kick when Solon had difficulty clearing the ball after it was played in.

The varsity record now stands at 3-1-1.

In the earlier game, The JV team won their game 3-0. Scoring for the comets was Max Shulman, Andrew Rosen, and Erkkila. Nice job JV!

Next up, Tuesday night the boys will host Normady at Stewart Field at 8 p.m. JV kicks off at 6 p.m.

The last meeting between the two teams was a 3-0 Comet victory in the 2010 playoffs. Come out and cheer the Comets to a win!
