In the battle of Comets vs. Comets, the Solon Comets came out on the winning side as both the JV and varsity boys’ teams won their games against the Amherst Comets on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

The varsity team struck first less than 10 minutes into the game as sophomore Jonathan King put in a header ball past the outstretched arms of the Amherst goalie to give Solon a 1-0 lead. The score stayed that way into the half.

Senior Orlando Cumberlander then paced the Solon team to two goals of his own to round out the scoring in the second half. The first of his two goals came less than 30 seconds into the second half on a point blank shot in the box, and the second was an aerial bomb as he was falling out of bounds about 30 yards from the goal that found the far upper 90.

The Comets controlled the ball for a vast majority of the game giving Amherst only rarely seen offense on the Solon side of the field. Senior Jacob Altstadt led the Comets in the back as he stopped anything that came his way in goal to earn another shutout. A victory was well worth the trip to the far West side for the Solon fans and family that followed to watch the team.

The final score was 3-0. Solon has now pushed their record to 7-1-4.

Earlier, the JV team also won 1-0 on a goal by Ethan Jezerski.

This week, Solon will travel on Tuesday night to take on the always tough Hudson Explorers, and then home next Saturday to host St. Ed’s and host “Senior Night” for our Solon seniors. The Hudson game kicks off at 7pm, the St. Ed’s game begins at 3pm. The festivities to honor the senior players begin at 2:30pm.
