The opening round of the 2012 boys’ soccer playoffs is in the books, and Solon is moving on.

The Comets survived a rough and tumble game against Kent Roosevelt. The only score of the game came at the 25 minute mark of the first half when senior Leo Held broke through the Kent defense, put a nice, soft touch on the ball to get a shot off around the goalie, and it nicked the far post to push into the net.

While the goal stood up to earn the victory, Kent mounted a tough push on offense late in the game, but the Solon defense with Foster King, Ardi Khalafi, Alec Krienen, Michael Rothenberg and goalie Jacob Altstadt were able to stand tough and shut down all scoring opportunities.

In the front half of the field, Scotty Welker, Ryan Adkins, Ethan Dunn, Orlando Cumberlander, Max Sattele, Aram Tosuyan, Johnny King, and Matt Schneider kept pushing the ball up the field on Kent all night, and finally wore them down in the second half with great through balls and offensive runs to seal the deal.
