Cleveland State Basketball Team Helps Out Solon Youth Program

The Vikings ran a skills cllinic for the fifth-grade Solon Runners basketball team on June 8.

A group of Solon basketball players got to work with college basketball players they look up to, literally and figuratively.

Cleveland State Head Coach Gary Waters and his team visited the fifth-grade Solon Runners basketball practice on Saturday, June 8.

Evan Marks, who helps run the travelling basketball team, said it was a terrific time for the kids.

"They were in awe because of the talent level," Marks said. These 10 and 11-year-old kids looked up to them as role models."

Cleveland State put on a clinic, working on dribbling, passing and shooting. They even ran a two-on-two tournament, pairing up a Solon kid with a Cleveland State player.

"That was probably the coolest experience for the kids," Marks said.

Cleveland State does this event every summer in one or two towns for community service for the players, and contacted Marks to work with his team.
