Stewart Field Getting New Turf

The all-purpose field at Solon High's Stewart Field is getting a new, more advanced type of FieldTurf installed this summer.

Solon's athletes and musicians will have a new field to compete on next school year.

The artificial turf at Stewart Field will be replaced this summer with a new version of FieldTurf that uses more advanced technology and is expected to last much longer, said Fred Bolden, Solon Schools' director of personnel and transportation.

The existing field has been around for nine years and has been used extensively for a variety of sports and other events, including football, soccer, lacrosse, marching band and many others.

Bolden said the field has held more than 150 events each year. And now the field is beginning to show extensive wear and tear.

He said the existing field is FieldTurf, but this new kind is a more advanced type and is a very-high quality surface.

"They offer the best playable surface we can have," he said.

Installation of the new field will begin after the spring Lacrosse and Track & Field seasons are over.
